Commanders flaunt all-around victory
It took just the second series of the season for the Commanders to find the end zone, and they would follow with two more before the day was through, backing a strong defensive effort in the process. Reigning Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels picked up where he left off last season, going 18-30 for 233 yards and a touchdown. The Washington QB also scrambled for 68 yards on 11 carries. The run game as a whole had 220 yards on the day, led by seventh-round selection Jacory Croskey-Merritt, who had 82 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries in his NFL debut. Deebo Samuel was Danies’ top target of the day, with 10 passes going his way, seven of which he caught for 77 yards. Tight end Zach Ertz was on the receiving end of Daniels’ TD pass. As a whole, the offense picked up 11 first downs in the win and was 4-11 on third downs.
The defense bookended the first week win with zeroes against them, allowing just one field goal in each of the second and third quarters. The team yielded a total of only 231 yards. They kept the Giants to just 74 rushing yards and 3.2 yards per carry. The Commanders' front put the pressure on Russell Wilson, getting to the QB for eight hits, two for sacks. The team also had seven tackles for a loss in the victory. Linebacker Bobby Wagner led the team with 10 tackles on the day. Defensive tackle Daron Payne had four tackles, a sack and two pass deflections. Overall, Washington committed 12 penalties for 89 yards.

Packers get it started
The Packers were being doubted a bit in their home opener against a strong Lions team last week, but they put forth a full-game effort and in the process, put some on notice. The offense put points on the board in the first three series for the team, including a two-play, 53-second touchdown drive in the second quarter. Jordan Love was efficient in leading the offense, going 16-22 in the pass game for 188 yards and two touchdown strikes. He distributed the ball to 10 different receivers, and none had more than Jayden Reed’s three catches. Romeo Doubs caught two passes for a team-high 68 yards. Josh Jacobs pulled 19 of the team's 25 carries in the run game, accumulating 66 yards and a TD. The line did not allow a sack, and the team collected 14 first downs while going 4-10 on third down chances.
The defense had a strong performance but bent a bit more in the second half than the third. They blanked the Lions in the first quarter and allowed just one field goal in each of the third and fourth quarters before Detroit finally found the end zone in the fourth. The Pack kept their division rival to 246 total yards with only 46 coming by way of the ground game. They put the pressure on Jarred Goff, forcing an interception while sacking the Lions’ QB four times for 25 yards of loss. Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper shut down things in the middle with a team-high 12 tackles. Rashan Gary went for seven tackles and 1.5 sacks in the win. Green Bay was pretty clean on the day as well, committing just four penalties for 40 yards.

Commanders vs. Packers Pick
Spread Pick for Commanders vs. Packers
- Commanders -3.5 (5 units)
These two last met in 2022, a game Washington won by two points as +4.5 underdogs at home. It's a completely different time this time around with Daniels leading the charge. The second-year quarterback looked like a seasoned vet in the first week, patiently attacking his opponent and finding his spots when they were there. His ability to run the ball creates a bigger issue for defenses and opens things up for the team’s running backs, of which Croskey-Merritt took full advantage. The Packers defense did an excellent job against limited Russell Wilson both passing and rushing, but the Giants lack the combination of weapons that the Commanders have, or, at the least, they aren’t connected as well with their quarterback. With that said, I expect Washington to be in this game until the very in, win or lose. Love did a good job in picking at the Lions new-look defense but will run into more issues in this game. Washington is 5-3-1 ATS in their last nine games against the Pack.
Take the Commanders getting the points.
Over/Under Pick for Commanders vs. Packers
- Under 47.5 (4 units)
The last meeting between these two teams produced 44 points, hitting the over versus a 41-point total. Both sides saw their defenses step up to make big plays in week one. The Packers made the biggest move to sure up their defense, just days before the season began, making the blockbuster trade for Micah Parsons. Despite the defensive end being with the team for just a limited period, the dynamic has most definitely shifted for the better in Green Bay. They’ll do well to contain Daniels, evident in what they were able to do against Wilson last week, plus how well they shut down the run as a whole. Washington was also able to shut down the run game and they also worked well against the pass. They will put pressure on Love and if they can limit penalties, they’ll have a firmer command of this game. The under is 2-1 in their last three meetings.
Take the under.
