Can the Bruins stay competitive in 2025/26?
The Boston Bruins were highly disappointing a season ago, but this year they've shaken up their lineup, and with good health, they're off to a solid start despite being 1-6-0 away from home thus far in 2025/26. The New York Islanders have struggled for excitement in recent years, but in 2025/26, they've changed their culture entirely, and with a 4-2-0 record at home already this year, they're proving that they are a team capable of being competitive all year long. In net, the Islanders find themselves 26th in the league with a 3.42 GAA this season, but with 3.33 goals scored per game, they're finally proving that they can put together a very fun offensive group as they look towards the future.
While Bo Horvat is the leader in New York with 13 points in 12 games played, it's rookie Matthew Schaefer with 10 in 12 games that has the entire NHL world talking, with the team finding themselves a superstar to lead their organization forward. Last time out for the Islanders was a win over the Columbus Blue Jackets, with two goals to Schaefer leading the way as David Rittich made 20 saves, leading them to a tight, dramatic 3-2 victory.
Expected starting goaltender: Ilya Sorokin (3.40 GAA and an .877 save percentage in eight games).
