Boston Bruins vs Pittsburgh Penguins Picks and Prediction for Thursday November 5 2026

Boston heads to Pittsburgh on Thursday night for a 7 PM ET game against the Penguins at PPG Paints Arena. This is one of those matchups where the home team might sound appealing until you look at how both clubs have been playing. Boston is having a terrific start, and Pittsburgh has been having trouble finishing games. The Bruins are a slight favorite in the available projections, which seems reasonable. I don’t think this is a game where Boston needs to do anything particularly fancy to win. The NHL season is starting to pick up in action and you should make sure you are in on the action with our free NHL picks.

Boston Bruins Have Been Getting the Job Done

Boston is 11-4-1, and the Bruins just beat Vegas 3-2 in a shootout Monday. That wasn’t some beautiful offensive performance where everything went right. It was a close hockey game, and Boston found a way to take the extra point. There’s something to be said for that. The Bruins have been winning games where they need to score four or five, and they’ve also been winning when the game turns into a defensive battle.

Boston has scored 58 goals and allowed 38 through 16 games. That’s 3.63 goals scored and 2.38 allowed per night. I like that combination quite a bit. The Bruins aren’t asking their goaltending to bail them out every time they take the ice, and they’re getting enough offense that a couple of mistakes don’t automatically ruin the night.

What I want to see Thursday is Boston staying disciplined. Pittsburgh has enough offensive ability to punish careless penalties, and the Bruins don’t need to give the Penguins extra chances. Keep the game at even strength, make Pittsburgh work for its opportunities, and Boston should be in pretty good shape.

Pittsburgh Penguins Need to Finish These Games

Pittsburgh is 5-8-2 after losing 3-2 to Vegas on Tuesday. That’s a frustrating result because the Penguins were leading in the third period before everything fell apart. They also lost 5-4 to Montreal on Saturday. That’s eight goals allowed over two games, and the Penguins walked away without a victory in either one.

The problem isn’t always creating offense. Pittsburgh has shown it can score, but keeping the puck out of its own net has been another story. Against Boston, that’s a problem. The Bruins are averaging better than three and a half goals per game, and Pittsburgh can’t afford another night where defensive mistakes undo everything the offense accomplishes.

The Penguins are at home, and that matters. They should have some urgency after losing another close game. But urgency doesn’t fix defensive coverage or bad penalties. Pittsburgh needs a complete performance, and I haven’t seen enough of those lately to trust the Penguins against one of the better teams in the East.

Boston Bruins vs Pittsburgh Penguins Picks and Prediction

Moneyline Pick: Boston Bruins

I’m taking Boston. Pittsburgh can absolutely make this interesting, especially at home, but I trust the Bruins a lot more right now. Boston has allowed just 38 goals in 16 games, and Pittsburgh keeps finding ways to lose games it could have won. That Vegas loss is a perfect example. The Penguins were in position to get two points and couldn’t finish. Boston has been doing a better job in those situations. I’ll take the Bruins to find a way to win another close one.

Total Pick: Under 6.5 Goals

Give me the under 6.5 if that’s the posted number. Boston’s defense is the big reason. Allowing 2.38 goals a game gives the Bruins a chance to keep Pittsburgh from getting comfortable, and I don’t think Boston needs five goals to win this matchup. The concern is Pittsburgh getting loose defensively and letting Boston score in bunches. That’s certainly possible. But I expect the Bruins to play a more controlled game, especially on the road. Something like 3-2 or 4-2 makes sense.

Final Picks: Boston Bruins Moneyline | Under 6.5 Goals (if available)
