Calgary Flames vs. Ottawa Senators Picks and Predictions, Thursday October 30, 2025

By: Nathan Smith Published 10/30/2025, 03:17 AM ET

The NHL's season is well and truly heating up with so many competitive teams, and on Thursday, we'll see two Canadian teams do battle in our Calgary Flames vs. Ottawa Senators prediction.

The Calgary Flames (2-8-1) have struggled mightily early in 2025/26, and with a team that severely lacks high-end talent, it's safe to say that the remaining season ahead could be very tough for Flames fans.

On Thursday, they take on the Ottawa Senators (5-5-1), a team that's found their momentum as of late, and with an offense that's rolling, this team has begun what could be a very special season in 2025/26. Read on to see our Calgary Flames vs. Ottawa Senators prediction.

Can the Flames find any type of success on the road?

The Calgary Flames made a shock post-season push a year ago, but in 2025/26 they've been the worst team in the NHL, and after winning their first game on the road, they've lost their next five straight as they sit 32nd in the NHL standings. The biggest issue for the Flames is their goal scoring, as the team rank dead last in the league with just 2.09 goals scored per game, and with Dustin Wolf unable to save them as they allow 3.55 goals a night, this is just a very bad hockey team.

Leading the way in scoring for Calgary to this point has been veteran Nazem Kadri with 2 goals and 8 points in 11 games played, and while three other players have scored six points on the year, they just don't have the depth or elite scoring needed to win. Last time out for the Flames was a tough loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, with goals to Farabee, Frost and Honzek not enough to get the job done as Wolf gave up four goals on 37 shots, falling 4-3 in the process.

Expected starting goaltender: Dustin Wolf (3.44 GAA and an .887 save percentage in 10 games).

Can the Senators keep building their impressive momentum?

The Ottawa Senators started the 2025/26 season slowly due to several injuries, but as of late they've found their rhythm, winning three of their last four games to get them back to 5-5-1 early in the new campaign. Offensively, the Senators are one of the best teams in the league as they average an impressive 3.64 goals per game, but with the team ranking 30th in the NHL with 4.00 goals allowed a night, they need to use this season to find that consistency in their game.

Unlike Calgary, Ottawa does have elite-level players, with five players posting double-digit points early in the season, led by 12 each from both Tim Stutzle and Drake Batherson, with a further four players beyond that having six or more points on the year. Last time out for the Senators was a tough loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, with two points each to Stutzle and Batherson not enough to get the job done as Linus Ullmark struggled again, allowing six goals on 25 shots as the team fell 7-3.

Expected starting goaltender: Linus Ullmark (3.44 GAA and an .858 save percentage in nine games).

Calgary Flames vs. Ottawa Senators picks

Moneyline pick for Flames vs. Senators

  • Ottawa -165 (5 units)

On paper, this Ottawa Senators team is far superior to the Calgary Flames, as they came away with a 2-0 record against Calgary last season, outscoring them 7-5 in those two head-to-head battles.

On top of that, the Senators rank highly in goal scoring this season, and with the Flames going 0-5-0 in their last five games played away from home with a very tired Dustin Wolf in net, expect the home team to pick up a big victory here.

Over/Under pick for Flames vs. Senators

  • Over 6 (5 units)

While Wolf has been spectacular in recent years, last season, the average goals scored between these games were six, and this year, both teams are allowing a GAA of 3.50 or worse, so expect this one to be all about the offense.

For the Flames, the over sits at 5-3-2 in their last 10 overall games, with 23 goals allowed in their last four games played away from home, and for the Senators, the over comes in at 7-3 in their past 10, with four or more goals scored in five of their last eight games.

Keep it simple, take the over.
