There are plenty of young, exciting teams in the NHL, and on Sunday, we'll see two of them match up in our Calgary Flames vs. Philadelphia Flyers prediction.
The Calgary Flames (2-9-2) had some hope coming into the 2025/26 season, but after a dreadful start early in the year, this appears to be a team that could completely implode at any time.
On Sunday, they battle the fast-rising Philadelphia Flyers (6-4-1), a team that has some of the most exciting young players in the NHL, and under a new Head Coach, they're putting the Metropolitan Division on notice this season. Read on to see our Calgary Flames vs. Philadelphia Flyers prediction.

Can the Flames find any success this season?
The Calgary Flames' 2024/25 campaign was clearly a fluke, as they've come out flat and non-competitive early this season, and with the team going 1-6-1 away from home early in the year, they sit 32nd in the overall NHL standings through 13 games played. Unfortunately, the numbers back up just how bad they've been to this point, as they rank last in the league in goals scored at 2.17 per game, and as they allow a 3.50 GAA through 13 games, there's just no positives for them right now to lean on.
Leading the way for Calgary so far has been Nazem Kadri with 3 goals and 10 points, and while they've got some other solid performers and 6 & 7 points, they just don't have that star player that can drive them to any sort of success. Last time out for the Flames was a one-sided loss to the Nashville Predators, with goals to Huberdeau and Farabee keeping this one close, but with Dustin Wolf allowing three goals on just 11 shots, the team came up short 4-3.
Expected starting goaltender: Devin Cooley (2.52 GAA and a .933 save percentage in four appearances).

Can the Flyers keep their hot start going?
The Philadelphia Flyers have been collecting some very exciting young talents in recent years, and now it appears to be paying off as the team is in the hunt in the Metropolitan Division on the back of a 6-2-0 record on home ice. The success of these Flyers has been on their goaltending this season as they rank second in the NHL with a 2.40 GAA, and while the offense averages 2.80 goals a night, it's more than enough to keep them competitive on a nightly basis.
Unsurprisingly, it's the young talent leading the way for Philadelphia, with Trevor Zegras leading the team with 13 points, and given that five other players have seven or more points through 11 games, hopes are high for the team in 2025/26. Last time out for the Flyers was a tough loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, with goals to Foerster and Dvorak not enough to get the job done as Dan Vladar had an off night, giving up five goals on 19 shots as they were beaten 5-2.
Expected starting goaltender: Aleksei Kolosov (7 saves on 7 shots in just one appearance this season).
Calgary Flames vs. Philadelphia Flyers picks
Moneyline pick for Flames vs. Flyers
- Philadelphia -145 (5 units)
These two teams don't match up often, but when they do, it's been fairly competitive, with the Flames holding a 4-3 record in their last seven head-to-head meetings, taking wins in both their matchups a season ago.
However, this is a Flyers team with much more talent on it this season, and with the Flames losing three straight and having just one regulation win through 13 games, expect the home team to pick up the dominant victory in this one.
Over/under pick for Flames vs. Flyers
- Under 6.5 (4 units)
Simply put, this matchup is the Flames' terrible offense doing battle with one of the best goaltending groups in the NHL, and with the under sitting at 5-5 in their last 10 head-to-head encounters, look for this to be a very tight, low-scoring battle.
For the Flames, the under sits at 4-6 in their last 10 overall games, with three or fewer goals scored in nine of those games, and for the Flyers, the under comes in at 5-5 in their past 10, with three or fewer goals allowed in six of their eight home games this season.
Keep it simple, take the under.
