Hurricanes Finding Losses Due To Offense
The Hurricanes are heading to New York after a loss on Saturday versus the Bruins with a final score of 2-1. This is the third loss in the last four games for the Hurricanes. Carolina is continuing a short two-game road trip on Tuesday before heading back home for a two-game home stand on Thursday against the Wild.
Carolina is sixth in goals allowed this season, which has helped immensely in their quest for the top of their division. However, it has been a crutch the Hurricanes have stood on as their offense has not been as consistent across their games so far this season. Carolina ranks 13th in scoring and second in shots per game at 32.8, but has struggled on the man advantage. Carolina is last in the league in power play percentage at 9.4%. In their last four game,s the Hurricanes have totaled eleven goals across those games, but if you take away their six-goal game against the Islanders, we see only two goals per game across three games.
We are likely to see Frederik Andersen get the start in net for the Hurricanes on Tuesday.
Frederik Andersen:
- has a record of 4-3-0 in 7 games with a goals against average of 2.96 and a save percentage of .894 this season.
- has a record of 10-6-3 in 19 games with a goals against average of 2.64 and a save percentage of .908 against the Rangers in his career.

Rangers Relying On Defense
New York is returning home after another win on Saturday versus the Kraken with a final score of 3-2. This is the third win in a row for the Rangers as they end a four-game road trip with a 3-1-0 record. The Rangers are returning home briefly on Tuesday before heading back on the road for their game against the Red Wings on Friday.
The Rangers have relied heavily on their defense this season as their offense has been nonexistent. New York is 28th in scoring and third-to-last in power play percentage at 12.1%. To make up for this the Rangers have focused in on their defense and goaltending. New York is third in goals allowed, eighth in penalty kill percentage at 84.8%, and is fifth in save percentage at .908. The Rangers have battled back from their rough start to the season, but will have to remain vigilant in net and on defense if they wish to continue their current streak.
We should see Igor Shesterkin get the nod in net for Tuesday’s game.
Igor Shesterkin:
- has a record of 4-4-2 in 10 games with a goals against average of 2.28 and a save percentage of .913 this season.
- is 5-8-0 in 13 games with a goals against average of 2.98 and a save percentage of .899 against the Hurricanes in his career.
Injuries:

Hurricanes versus Rangers Picks and Prediction
Money Line Pick for Hurricanes v.s Rangers
- Hurricanes Money Line (-125) (4 units)
The Hurricanes have a 6-1-0 record in their last seven games against the Rangers. The Rangers have a 0-2-0 record as underdogs at home this season. In fact, the Rangers are 0-4-1 this season at home and have struggled to find a win in front of the home crowd. Across their five games played at home, the Rangers have only scored six goals, which is going to be a problem going into a defensive-heavy team like the Hurricanes. This is going to be a defensive matchup and will likely be decided with only a couple of goals scored. New York does not have the goal production this season and especially at home to combat the Carolina defense.
Over/Under Pick for Hurricanes versus Rangers
- Under 5.5 (+106) ( 5 units)
The Rangers have an over/under record of 1-4 at home this season. The Hurricanes have an over/under record of 2-5 on the road this season. Neither team is showing consistent prowess on offense and as a result, I doubt the scoring abilities of either team, especially in this matchup where both defenses are going to be tight in allowing shots on net. These teams have a defensive playstyle, and in games like this, we will be lucky to see more than four goals scored. I am sticking with the under in this defensive matchup.
