Blackhawks Drop Third Straight Game
The Chicago Blackhawks are clearly in a rebuild at this point, but a 5-5-3 (13 points) start to the season is welcomed. As long as they see their young core take a step forward in 2025-26, they’ll chalk the season up as a success. In terms of recent form, the Hawks are in the midst of a 0-2-1 stretch during their current six-game road trip. They’ve lost to the Jets (6-3), Oilers (3-2 OT), and Kraken (3-1), most recently.
Offense was clearly tough to come by in Monday’s 3-1 road loss to the Kraken, but the Blackhawks did amass 30 shots on goal. The lone tally came from Andre Burakovsky (5), with Connor Bedard logging his 10th assist on the play. Arvid Soderblom was in the net, and he made 21 saves on 24 shots faced (.875%). Being that Soderblom went on Monday, we’ll likely see Spencer Knight (4-3-2, 2.63 GAA, .913 SV%) between the pipes on Wednesday.
- The Blackhawks are ranked 19th in scoring this season (3.00 GPG), while cashing 17.5% of their power-play chances (21st).
- On the defensive side, they’re giving up 2.85 tallies per game (12th) and ranked 14th on the PK (80.8%).
- Injury Report: C Jason Dickinson (shoulder) is currently week-to-week.

Canucks Bounce Back, Beat Predators
The Vancouver Canucks missed the playoffs last season (38-30-14, 90 points), and it appears that they’re going to be a fringe squad once again – especially considering they play in a stacked Pacific division. So far in 2025-26, Coach Adam Foote’s group is 7-7-0 (14 points). They’ve alternated wins and losses over their last six games, but are coming off a 5-4 overtime win on Monday. The sports betting market says the Canucks are roughly a coin flip to make the postseason, coming in at +130 to do so (-165 to miss).
Monday’s 5-4 victory over the Predators saw Brock Boeser emerge as the hero, scoring two goals (5 & 6). That includes the game-winning goal with just two seconds left in the extra frame. Evander Kane also lit the lamp twice with his first and second tallies of the year. Thatcher Demko wasn’t dominant in the win, but did enough by making 25 saves on 29 shots faced (.862 SV%).
- Vancouver’s offense has been underwhelming this season, ranking 25th in goals per game (2.71) and 17th on the power play (20.0%).
- Defensively, they’re conceding 3.21 goals per contest (23rd) and killing 69.4% of their penalties (27th).
- Injury Report: D Victor Mancini (undisclosed) and D Derek Forbort (undisclosed) are both on IR, while RW Conor Garland (undisclosed) has been out since October 28th.
Blackhawks vs. Canucks Pick
Puck Line Pick for Blackhawks vs. Canucks
- Chicago Blackhawks +1.5 (-155) (5 units)
This is one of those rare spots where I’m backing the underdog on the puck line. For starters, Vancouver is still dealing with an injury to a key player in RW Conor Garland (3G, 8A), who is the team’s point leader. The Canucks also simply haven’t been in overpowering form, going just 3-5-0 in their last eight games. Out of their last 13 games, the Canucks have only won one game by 2+ goals!
These teams also met earlier in the year in Chicago, and the Canucks pulled out a 3-2 shootout win. The Hawks will likely turn to Spencer Knight (2.63 GAA, .913 SV%), and his 7.2 Goals Saved Above Expected is the seventh-best in the NHL. I think this will be a tight game, and I believe the Blackhawks can keep it within a goal, if not pull off the outright win.
Over/Under Pick for Blackhawks vs. Canucks
- Under 6.0 (-115) (5 units)
I think at a flat number of 6.0, it’s best to play the under. We’ll have “push potential” in case it lands 4-2. Chicago has been struggling offensively, averaging only 2.0 goals per game during its current 0-2-1 run. Six of their last eight games, including a 3-2 shootout loss to the Canucks, have all stayed under 6.0 goals.
Both of these teams rank outside the top 10 in shooting percentage. Chicago is 11th (11.9%) and Vancouver is 21st (10.5%). In terms of expected goals per 60 minutes, the Blackhawks are 28th (2.88), while the Canucks are 31st (2.73). Really, these are two of the worst offenses in the league, and with Spencer Knight and Thatcher Demko between the pipes, goals should be tough to come by. Give me the under.
