The Dallas Stars and the Colorado Avalanche are ready to face off in early-season Central Division action on Saturday night inside Ball Arena for our Stars vs. Avalanche prediction. The Stars (1-0-0) opened the season with a solid 5-4 road win on Thursday against the Winnipeg Jets. The Avalanche (2-0-0) are on a two-game winning streak to begin the season as they secured a 2-1 home win over the Utah Mammoth on Thursday. This is the first of four games these teams will play against one another, but they do not play until March. Letโ€™s take a deeper dive into the Buffalo Sabres vs. Boston Bruins prediction. Blue line to crease โ€” NHL picks for Dallas Stars vs. Colorado Avalanche without the fluff.

Stars Looking to Shine

The Dallas Stars, looking to continue adding points to their ledger as they have a 1-0-0 record right now. Their offense has been dominating as they are tied for second place with 5.00 goals per game. Right winger Mikko Rantanen is leading the team with three points (one goal, two assists) and needs to get some more support offensively from the rest of the roster. Their offense has to improve statistically, though, as they are 1-for-5 on power plays but are shooting an outstanding 13.5% throughout their first nine games.

The team has been playing on defense, ranking tied for 20th in the sport with 4.00 goals allowed per game. The penalty kill for the Stars has managed to kill all four (100.0%) of their opponentsโ€™ opportunities, which is outstanding for the team. Goaltender Jake Oettinger has gotten off to a slow start as he is 1-0-0 with 4.00 goals allowed per game and a .840 save percentage thus far.

Their offense has been looking unwell thus far as they are 24th with 2.64 goals per game this season. Center Martin Necas has been leading the charge as he has three points (two goals, one assist) and needs to continue stepping up to lead the team. Their offense has been a bit lower than the league average as the team is 2-for-10 on power plays and are shooting 12.0% heading into this game.

Coloradoโ€™s defense has been doing an unbelievable job as they are tied for second place with 1.00 goals allowed per game right now. Dallas Stars vs. Colorado Avalanche Pick

Spread Pick for Stars vs. Avalanche

  • Colorado Avalanche -130 (4 units)

Colorado and Dallas have been two of the premier teams not only in the Western Conference, but in the entire National Hockey League. Jake Oettinger had a rough showing in his first game, while Mackenzie Blackwood is expected to see his first action of the season while dealing with a lower-body injury. The Avalancheโ€™s defense has put them in a great spot as they have not allowed a goal on 5v5 action through the first two games. Dallas can put goals on the board, but expect the Colorado defense and the mile-high altitude to play a factor in the Stars. All in all, go with the Colorado Avalanche to improve to 3-0-0 and step up with a win.

Over/Under Pick for Stars vs. Avalanche

  • Under 6.5 (4 units)

Dallas is one of the most explosive offensive teams in hockey, but this Colorado defense can completely silence any team going up against them. The Stars have a lot of offensive weapons that can put the puck in the back of the net, but these defenses are not allowing too many shots on the goaltender. So far this season, Dallas is 10th with 25.0 shots against per game, while Colorado is 15th with 29.0 shots against on goal per game. Go with under 6.5 total goals to be scored as these teams are going to keep goals at a premium with the defense being the focus here.
