Can the Red Wings find their momentum away from home?
The Detroit Red Wings have built their team well, and while it's taken some time, they have finally found their best right out of the gate, and even with a 1-2-0 record away from home this season, they find themselves at 6-3-0 overall, sitting in second place in the Atlantic Division. This season, the Red Wings' offense has found its consistency with 3.33 goals scored per game, and even with the team ranked 22nd in the league with a 3.22 GAA, they keep finding ways to win every night out.
Through nine games, it's captain Dylan Larkin driving play for Detroit with 13 points, and with three other players having six or more points in that time, the top of their lineup is finally firing the way that Todd McClellan was hoping for. Last time out for the Red Wings was a big win over these Blues, with four players tallying two points each on the night as they overcame a rough outing from John Gibson, saving 25 of the 29 shots he saw as they picked up the 6-4 win.
Expected starting goaltender: John Gibson (3.46 GAA and an .870 save percentage in five games).
Can the Blues somehow turn the momentum?
The St. Louis Blues continued their momentum from last year early in the season, but lately they've struggled mightily, dropping five of their last six games as they now sit at 3-5-1 on the season, putting them in last place in the Central Division. Unsurprisingly, the Blues offense has been fairly solid this year with 3.00 goals scored per game, but with the team posting a whopping 4.13 GAA, they've given themselves very little chance on a nightly basis.
While St. Louis does have five players scoring six or more this season, their leader in scoring is forward Jake Neighbours, with the team's firepower simply not getting off to a good start in 2025/26, very similar to last season. Last time out for the Blues was a tight loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins, with goals to Bjugstad, Kyrou and Mathieu not enough to keep this one close as Joel Hofer allowed five goals on 25 shots, falling 6-3 on the night.
Expected starting goaltender: Jordan Binnington (3.12 GAA and an .872 save percentage in seven games).
