Florida Panthers vs Washington Capitals Picks and Prediction for Saturday November 7 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 11/07/2026, 12:30 AM ET

Florida heads to Washington on Saturday afternoon for a 12:30 PM ET game against the Capitals at Capital One Arena. Both clubs have been putting together decent seasons, but neither is exactly unbeatable. Florida has won three straight, while Washington is trying to recover from a wild 6-5 loss to Dallas. The Panthers have been a little better defensively, but they’re missing some important pieces. Washington has the home ice, and I think that’s going to matter in a matchup that could go either way. Florida Panthers Have Been Finding Ways to Win

Florida is 9-5-2 after beating Chicago 5-3 in its last game. The Panthers have won three straight, and they’ve been doing a better job finishing games. That’s encouraging for a team that’s had to work through some injuries. Florida hasn’t been perfect, but it keeps collecting points.

The Panthers have scored 52 goals in 16 games, averaging 3.25 per night. They’ve allowed 47, or 2.94 per game. That’s a pretty respectable defensive number, and it’s one reason Florida has been competitive. The Panthers have also been getting decent production from their power play, which is operating around 24%. Against Washington, special teams could make a difference because the Capitals have been giving up more than three goals a night.

The big concern is who’s missing. Aleksander Barkov remains out with a lower-body injury, while Brad Marchand is recovering from a leg injury. Jonah Gadjovich is also unavailable. That’s a lot of offensive experience missing from the lineup. Florida has been getting by, but Washington has enough scoring ability to make those absences hurt.

Washington Capitals Need to Tighten Up Defensively

Washington is 8-6-0 after losing 6-5 to Dallas. That’s a frustrating one because scoring five goals should usually be enough to win. The Capitals have been playing some entertaining hockey, but they’ve also been giving up too many chances. It’s difficult to win consistently when every game starts looking like a track meet.

Washington has scored 49 goals in 14 games, averaging 3.5 per night. The Capitals have allowed 48, which works out to 3.43 goals against per game. That’s a pretty big defensive number. Washington can score, but it hasn’t been doing enough to protect leads or keep opponents from getting good looks.

Rasmus Sandin is out with a knee injury, while Vincent Desharnais is unavailable with an abdominal injury. Those absences matter because Washington needs help on the blue line. The Capitals have enough offensive ability to make Florida uncomfortable, but they can’t keep allowing five or six goals and expect to win. At home, I’d expect a better defensive effort than what they showed against Dallas.

Florida Panthers vs Washington Capitals Picks and Prediction

Moneyline Pick: Washington Capitals

I’m taking Washington. Florida has won three straight, and I like the way the Panthers have been defending. But they’re missing some important offensive pieces, and the Capitals have the home ice. Washington just scored five against Dallas, so the offense isn’t the problem. The question is whether the Capitals can get enough stops. I think they do a better job Saturday, and I like Washington to win a close one.

Total Pick: Over 5.5 Goals

Give me the over 5.5 if that’s the number. Washington is averaging 3.5 goals and allowing 3.43, and that’s a pretty good starting point for an over. Florida has been scoring better than three a night, too. The Panthers are the better defensive team, so there’s a chance they slow this down and make it a 3-2 game. But Washington’s recent defensive problems are difficult to ignore. I think both clubs get to three goals, and that puts us over.

Final Picks: Washington Capitals Moneyline | Over 5.5 Goals (if available)
