Can the Kings find some early consistency?
The Los Angeles Kings have consistently made the Stanley Cup Playoffs for years now, but every time they've run into the Edmonton Oilers, the team has hoped that some veteran additions in the summer can be what helps them back on a deep run in 2025/26. Last year, the Kings were 17-19-5 away from home, but with so much emotion going into Anze Kopitar's final NHL season, the team will look to rally around him in a wide open and very winnable Pacific Division.
In net for Los Angeles in this matchup will be veteran Darcy Kuemper, who has struggled early this season through two outings, posting a 3.63 GAA and an .860 save percentage in that time, as he looks to get back to the surprising form of 2025/26. Last time out for the Kings was a tough loss to the Winnipeg Jets, with two points to Adrian Kempe not enough to get the job done as Kuemper stopped 24 of the 27 shots that he saw as the team came up short 3-2 in a tough matchup.
Can the Wild live up to expectations this season?
The Minnesota Wild have been building a very solid core in recent years, and after locking in their biggest star to a historic deal this off-season, this is now a team that's expected to make a genuine Stanley Cup push this season. At home last year, the Wild posted a solid home record of 22-17-2, but with a tough loss in their home opener in 2025/26, they'll look to get things going early in a very competitive Central Division.
Minnesota will turn to rising star Filip Gustavsson in this matchup, who has once more been solid through two starts this season, posting a 3.03 GAA and an .895 save percentage on 57 total shots as the team has started 1-1-0 this year. Last time out for the Wild was a tough loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, with Matt Boldy and Kirill Kaprizov both putting up three points on the night as Gustavsson struggled mightily, allowing six goals on 31 points as they were dominated at home, losing by a score of 7-4.
