Minnesota Wild Have Found Their Scoring Touch Again

Minnesota had a tough couple of nights in Alberta last week, losing 4-3 in overtime to Edmonton and 2-1 against Calgary. The Wild didn't stay down long. They headed to Seattle on Saturday and beat the Kraken 5-1, then followed that with a 4-2 win in Vancouver on Sunday. Those results gave Minnesota three victories in its last five games. The Wild have scored 41 goals through 13 contests and allowed only 30. They're also putting plenty of pressure on opposing goaltenders, averaging 31.3 shots while giving up just 24.9 per game.

Kirill Kaprizov has been doing a lot of the scoring for Minnesota. He's already found the net 13 times in 13 games, giving him the NHL's highest goal total. Kaprizov also has eight assists and 21 points. Quinn Hughes has contributed three goals and 13 assists from the blue line, while Matt Boldy has five goals and six assists. Joel Eriksson Ek has 10 points, and Maxim Shabanov has eight. Jesper Wallstedt has been outstanding in goal, going 7-2-2 with a 2.08 GAA, eighth among NHL goaltenders, and a .918 save percentage.

Injuries: Filip Gustavsson, Marcus Foligno, Nick Foligno and Brock Faber are out.

Utah Mammoth Have Been Tough at Home

The Mammoth have given their fans plenty of goals to celebrate, although keeping opponents from scoring has been another matter. Utah beat Pittsburgh 5-4 on October 19, then lost 5-3 in Seattle three nights later. Saturday's home game against Tampa Bay brought another close finish. The Mammoth won 5-4 in overtime, improving to 4-1-0 at Delta Center. Utah has scored 46 goals through 12 games, averaging 3.83, but has also allowed 40. The power play has been particularly productive, converting 38.1% of its chances. The penalty kill is another story, stopping only 66.7%.

Clayton Keller leads Utah with 15 points, including 11 assists. Mikhail Sergachev has been busy setting up teammates, collecting 11 assists and three goals from the blue line. Nick Schmaltz has scored seven times, with five goals coming on the power play. Dylan Guenther has five goals and five assists, while Logan Cooley has 11 points. Karel Vejmelka has six wins in nine decisions, although his 3.13 GAA and .878 save percentage have made some games uncomfortable. Sebastian Cossa is 2-1-0 with a 3.33 GAA and .820 save percentage.

Injuries: John Marino, Michael Carcone and Maveric Lamoureux are out.

Key To The Game

Utah's power play has been dangerous, but Minnesota brings a stronger penalty kill and better goaltending. The Wild need to stay disciplined against Schmaltz and Keller. Utah also has to find a way to slow down Kaprizov.

Minnesota Wild vs Utah Mammoth Game Pick

  • Minnesota Wild

Minnesota has won its last two road games by a combined 9-3 score, and Wallstedt has been much steadier than Utah's goaltenders. Kaprizov is scoring at an incredible rate, while Hughes gives the Wild another threat from the blue line. Utah's home record is impressive, but its penalty kill has stopped just two-thirds of opposing chances. Minnesota takes advantage of those problems and picks up another road victory Tuesday night.

Minnesota Wild vs Utah Mammoth Over/Under Pick

  • Over

Utah's last three games have produced nine, eight and nine total goals, and the Mammoth have allowed at least four in each. Minnesota arrives after scoring five in Seattle and four in Vancouver. Kaprizov leads a Wild attack that can take advantage of Utah's struggling penalty kill. The Mammoth also have a dangerous power play of their own. Both teams create enough chances to make the over the pick Tuesday.
