The Canadiens are traveling to Calgary after their win on Monday versus the Sabres with a final score of 4-2. This win would have the Canadiens finish their four-game home stand with a 3-1-0 record. Montreal will now look to carry their recent success onto the road as it begins a four-game road trip on Wednesday against the Flames.
Montreal has thrived on offense to start this season, ranking second overall in scoring. While their special teams have not been great, only ranking 21st in power play percentage at 17.4% and their lack of shots averaging only 26.1 shots per game, the Canadiens have been able to generate a consistent amount of goals. The Canadiens are fifth overall in shooting percentage at 13.7% and with their reliable shooting they have been able to counterbalance their poor goaltending. This lack of offense comes from a combination of both unreliability on special teams as well as poor shooting quality. The Flames are 27th in power-play percentage at 14.8% and are last in the league in shooting percentage at 6.2%. This lack of quality shooting is made worse when the Flames do not produce that many shots to begin with. Calgary is 25th in the league in shots per game, averaging 25.4 shots per game. Unless Calgary is capable of generating more goals, I do not believe they will come out from the bottom of their division.
