We have a nonconference NHL showdown as the Nashville Predators, standing in sixth place of the Central Division with a 4-5-2 record, clash with the Metropolitan Division’s fifth-place Philadelphia Flyers, who bring a 5-3-1 record to center ice for our Predators vs. Flyers prediction. Set inside the Xfinity Mobile Arena on October 30th at 7:00 PM ET, fans can catch the action live on ESPN+. This will be the first of two games against one another, as they will play next week as well. Blue line to crease — NHL picks for Nashville Predators at Philadelphia Flyers without the fluff.

Predators Looking to Get Back in the Win Column

The Nashville Predators, positioned in sixth place in the Central Division with a 4-5-2 record, head into this game looking to get back on track. The latest game against the Tampa Bay Lightning at home 5-2 was a losing effort as they allowed three goals in the third period.

Offensively, Nashville has been doing a terrible job at finding the back of the net, averaging 2.45 goals per game, which is tied with the Florida Panthers for 29th in the sport. The Predators’ power play has been at a poor level, converting at an 11.8% clip, showcasing a need to improve going forward. Their defensive game shows a specific need as well, allowing 3.36 goals per game, as they need to get some stops.

On the goaltending front, goaltender Juuse Saros is going to be in the net as he has a 4-3-2 record with a .904 save percentage and 2.84 goals allowed per game.

Injury Report for Nashville

  • Right winger Patrik Laine: Lower Body (OUT)
  • Defenseman Kaiden Guhle: Lower Body (OUT)

Flyers Looking to Continue Dominant Home Start

The Philadelphia Flyers, playing at a strong level up to this point as they are in sixth place in the Metropolitan Division with a 5-3-1 record early on, face a team that is playing at a middling level. Their recent game at home against the Penguins, a 3-2 shootout win, reflects a team that is willing to step up and fight to get points on their ledger. Center Sean Couturier is leading the franchise with nine points (two goals, seven assists). The Flyers are dealing with a pair of injuries as one player is already ruled out for Thursday’s game.

Philly’s offensive output has been unable to get going thus far, with the team sitting in 27th place in the league for goals scored, averaging 2.67 goals per game. The Flyers’ power play, operating at a 17.2% success rate, and their penalty kill at 88.6%, highlight areas of the game that are doing well through the first few weeks of the year.

Goaltending is one of the team’s strong suits, with Dan Vladar looking to improve as he is dominating thus far as he is posting a 3-2-0 record with 1.81 goals allowed per game and a .932 save percentage. If the defense continues to step up, the team can win games despite the lackluster offense.

Injury Report for Philadelphia

  • Goalie Samuel Ersson: Undisclosed (Questionable)
  • Defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen: Triceps (OUT)

Nashville Predators at Philadelphia Flyers Pick

Spread Pick for Predators vs. Flyers

  • Philadelphia Flyers -145 (4 units)

Nashville is on a losing streak, while Philadelphia is on a winning streak heading into this matchup. The Flyers are playing well as they have had overtime periods in three of their last five games, proving they will play tough throughout the 60 minutes. Neither team has been able to shoot the puck too well, but Philadelphia has shown a better ability to score the puck. Defensively, the Preds have allowed 14 goals in their last three game,s while the Flyers are giving up 10 goals in their previous five games played. The Flyers won the previous two meetings against the Predators, so go with the Philadelphia Flyers to record the win here.

Over/Under Pick for Predators at Flyers

  • Under 5.5 (4 units)

These offenses have been absolutely struggling to attack the opposing goaltender this season as Nashville is 22nd in the sport with 26.7 shot attempts per game, while Philadelphia is last with only 23.7 shots on goal per game. Juuse Saros and Dan Vladar have been playing well in the early portion of the regular season, and that helps limit the number of pucks passing them to the back of the net. These teams are both in the top six in terms of killing penalties this season, up to this point as well. All in all, go with under 5.5 total goals to be scored in this game.
