New York and Nashville had very different Sundays. The Islanders left Dallas with a 6-3 loss, while the Predators put six goals past Colorado in a 6-2 home win. They'll meet Tuesday at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, with the game scheduled for 8:00 pm ET on ESPN+. New York has a 5-4-2 record and sits fifth in the Metropolitan Division. Nashville is also fifth in its division, the Central, at 4-3-4. The Islanders have lost their last two games, including Thursday's overtime defeat to Los Angeles. Nashville had dropped two straight before beating Colorado. Check out our free NHL picks for Tuesday's other games.

New York Islanders Have Some Defensive Issues to Address

A trip to Dallas on Sunday ended with the Islanders allowing more goals than they had in any of their previous four games. The Stars won 6-3, leaving New York without a victory since October 20. That last win came against Anaheim, when the Islanders held on for a 3-2 result. Three days earlier, New York had beaten Toronto 4-1 on the road. The problem lately has been keeping that form going. Los Angeles picked up a 3-2 overtime win against the Islanders on Thursday, and Dallas followed with six goals Sunday. New York's season numbers still look decent, with 32 goals scored and 28 allowed in 11 games.

There's a lot riding on Bo Horvat and Matthew Schaefer offensively. Horvat has five goals and seven assists, with three of his goals scored on the power play. Schaefer has taken 42 shots from the blue line, the most on the team, and has two goals and eight assists. New York also has eight points from Brayden Schenn and four goals from Simon Holmstrom. Ilya Sorokin has five wins in eight decisions and owns a 2.26 GAA, fifth best among NHL goalies. His save percentage sits at .919. Semyon Varlamov hasn't recorded a victory in three decisions, although his 2.25 GAA is slightly lower.

Injuries: Calum Ritchie, Matias Maccelli, Alexander Romanov and Mathew Barzal are out.

Nashville Predators Coming Off a Big Win

The Predators had a couple of frustrating games before Colorado visited Sunday. Nashville couldn't score against Boston in a 6-0 loss Thursday, then fell 3-2 in overtime at Pittsburgh on Saturday. The offense finally came around against the Avalanche. Nashville scored six goals and won 6-2, picking up its fourth victory of the season. The Predators also beat St. Louis 5-2 earlier in October. Nashville has scored 31 goals through 11 games while allowing 33. The power play has been a bright spot, producing 12 goals and converting 33.3% of its opportunities.

Steven Stamkos has been Nashville's biggest scoring threat, collecting seven goals and seven assists in 11 games. He's scored three times on the power play and has converted seven of his 23 shots. Ryan O'Reilly isn't far behind with six goals and six assists, including two goals against Colorado on Sunday. Roman Josi has been creating chances from the blue line, recording 11 assists and one goal. Filip Forsberg has contributed 11 points. Juuse Saros is 3-2-3 with a 2.82 GAA and .908 save percentage, while Justus Annunen has gone 1-1-0 with a 4.00 GAA and .846 save percentage.

Injuries: None listed.

Key To The Game

Nashville's power play has been difficult to stop, but New York has killed 86.1% of opposing opportunities. The Islanders need Sorokin to rebound after Sunday's loss, while the Predators want to keep Stamkos and O'Reilly involved offensively.

New York Islanders vs Nashville Predators Game Pick

  • Nashville Predators

Nashville has been inconsistent, but Sunday's six-goal performance against Colorado showed what its offense can do. Stamkos and O'Reilly have combined for 13 goals, and Josi has been creating plenty of chances. New York has lost two straight, allowing nine goals across those games. Sorokin gives the Islanders a chance, but Nashville's dangerous power play presents another difficult matchup. The Predators carry Sunday's scoring into another home victory Tuesday night.

New York Islanders vs Nashville Predators Over/Under Pick

  • Over

The Islanders allowed six goals against Dallas on Sunday, while Nashville scored six against Colorado. Both teams have capable scorers, particularly Horvat for New York and Stamkos for the Predators. Nashville's power play has converted one-third of its opportunities, and New York has several players who can contribute offensively. Recent results suggest opportunities at both ends, especially if the Predators continue creating chances. The over is the pick Tuesday night.
