Islanders Continue Win Streak

The Islanders are coming off another win on Thursday versus the Red Wings with a final score of 7-2. This is the fourth win in a row for the Islanders as they end a short two-game home stand with a record of 2-0-0. The Islanders now head on the road for a four-game road trip, where this season they have a record of 1-1-0.

New York has been impressive this season when it comes to their offense, an issue that they had last season. The Islanders last season finished 27th in scoring and were 30th in shooting percentage at 9.2%. New York to start their season is ninth in scoring with a shooting percentage that ranks seventh in the league at 12.7%. The key to their offense, much like last season, has been their ability to produce shots on net as they sit seventh overall in shots per game at 30.43. Last year, they did maintain a high shot count in games, but did not have the quality of shooting that they are exhibiting at the start of this season. Center Bo Horvat has been leading the team in scoring, totaling five goals across his seven games played and four assists.

We will see Ilya Sorokin get the start in net for the Islanders on Saturday.

Ilya Sorokin:

  • has a record of 2-3-0 in 5 games with a goals against average of 3.90 and a save percentage of .873 this season.
  • had a record of 30-24-6 in 61 games with a goals against average of 2.71 and a save percentage of .907 in 2024-25.
  • has an 11-3-2 record in 16 games with a goals against average of 1.54 and a save percentage of .947 against the Flyers in his career.

Injuries:

  • Shabanov RW Day To Day - Upper-body
  • Romanov D Out - Upper-Body
  • Engvall LW Out - Ankle
  • Bear D Out - Undisclosed
  • Varlamov G Out - Knee

Flyers Relying On Defense

Philadelphia is returning home after a loss on Thursday versus the Senators with a final score of 2-1. The Flyers would briefly head on the road before returning on Saturday to start a lengthy home stand. The Flyers this season is 3-1-0 at home this season and hope to carry that momentum into their home stand starting on Saturday against New York.

The Flyers have relied heavily on their defense to grab wins this season as their offense has been struggling. So far this season, the Flyers are 27th in scoring as well as power play percentage at 13.6%. To counter their poor offensive outpu,t the Flyers rank fifth in goals allowed, 10th in powerplay percentage at 86.2%, and allow only 26.57 shots per game. This in combination with their reliable goaltending and you have a team that can grab wins but not as efficiently as many other teams due to their lack of scoring.

We will likely see Samuel Ersson start in net for the Flyers on Saturday.

Samuel Ersson:

  • has a record of 0-1-1 in 2 games with a goals against average of 3.88 and a save percentage of .849 this season.
  • had a 22-17-5 record in 47 games with a goals against average of 3.14 and a save percentage of .883 in 2024-25.
  • is 3-0-0 in 4 games with a goals against average of 2.29 and a save percentage of .920 versus the Islanders in his career.

Injuries:

  • Ristolainen D Out - Triceps

Islanders versus Flyers Picks and Prediction

Money Line Pick for Islanders vs. Flyers

  • Islanders Money Line (+105) (5 units)Β

The Islanders have a record of 6-2-1 in their last nine games against the Flyers on the road. The Flyers are already struggling in producing goals, and now have to find goals against Ilya Sorokin, who has thrived in his career against them. I do not expect much offense if any at all, from the Flyers, which will leave the door wide open for the Islanders to pick up the road win. The Islanders are on a hot streak as of lat,e and I believe we are getting great value on taking them as a road underdog.

Over/Under Pick for Islanders vs. Flyers

  • Over 5.5 (-142) (5 units)Β

The Islanders have an over/under record of 6-0-1 this season. The Flyers have an over/under record of 3-1 at home this season. Both of these teams have something in common, which is their totals so far this season. We are seeing one-sided games from both sides, and I suspect this will not change in this game. The Islanders’ offense has been dominating to start the season, and I have no doubts they alone can take us close to this over with the one or two goals the Flyers should get on Ilya Sorokin.
