The Flyers will need to improve their consistency on both ends of the ice and find ways to create scoring opportunities against the Bruins. Boston will welcome Philadelphia, looking to take advantage of its home crowd and continue building momentum early in the regular season. The Bruins have enough offensive talent to make things difficult for the Flyers and will look to establish control early in the game. This preview was completed prior to the opening lines being released. Stay in the loop with our NHL Picks.

Flyers try to end woes

Philadelphia has struggled to find consistent offense early in the season, averaging just 1.25 goals on 19.25 shots per game through four outings. Defensively, the Flyers have had even more trouble, allowing 4.25 goals on 39.5 shots per game. Philadelphia is still searching for its first victory, coming into the weekend with a 0-2-2 record. The Flyers have scored just five total goals while allowing 17, putting significant pressure on their offense to improve.

Philadelphia's most recent outing ended in a 2-1 loss against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night. The Flyers were unable to generate enough offense to overcome Ottawa, marking their fifth consecutive loss to open the regular season. Owen Tippett finished the game without a point despite putting four shots on goal in just over 17 minutes of ice time. Philadelphia has now scored just six goals through five games and will need a much stronger offensive performance to challenge Boston on Saturday afternoon.

Boston goes for 2 in a row

Boston has shown flashes of offensive production early this season, improving to 3-2 overall following Thursday's victory over Utah. Through their first four games, the Bruins averaged 2.25 goals on 24.75 shots per game while allowing 2.75 goals on 27.75 shots. Boston's offensive production improved significantly in its fifth outing, scoring six goals against the Mammoth. David Pastrnak has emerged as one of the team's leading offensive contributors, while Morgan Geekie has provided additional production. JJ Peterka also has two goals this season, and Mark Kastelic recorded three points through the Bruins' first four games.

Boston dominated the Utah Mammoth in its most recent game, cruising to a 6-1 victory Thursday night at TD Garden. David Pastrnak led the Bruins with two goals and two assists, while Morgan Geekie added one goal and two assists. Casey Mittelstadt, Mason Lohrei, and Matthew Poitras each scored one goal as Boston built a commanding six-goal lead through two periods. Jeremy Swayman was outstanding in net, stopping 36 of the 37 shots he faced. Boston also converted three of its four power-play opportunities and successfully killed all seven Utah power plays. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak and gave the Bruins momentum heading into Saturday's matchup against Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Flyers vs Boston Bruins Picks and Prediction

Pick: Boston Bruins

Boston should have a good opportunity to pick up another victory Saturday afternoon when Philadelphia comes to town. The Bruins have enough offensive talent to create scoring chances throughout the game and should be able to put pressure on the Flyers' defense. Philadelphia will need to find ways to limit Boston's opportunities and avoid spending too much time in its defensive zone. The Bruins should benefit from playing at home, where they can establish their offensive rhythm and force Philadelphia into difficult situations. The Flyers have enough talent to keep things competitive, but Boston should be able to take advantage of its scoring opportunities and make enough plays in the final period to secure the victory.

Pick: Under

Defensive play could have a significant impact Saturday afternoon when Philadelphia and Boston meet at TD Garden. The Bruins will look to control the puck and limit the Flyers' ability to create quality scoring chances. Philadelphia should focus on slowing down Boston's offensive attack and keeping the game competitive throughout the afternoon. Both teams will have opportunities to put shots on goal, but neither side should want to give away easy scoring chances. Goaltending could play an important role, especially if the game remains close heading into the third period. Look for Boston to control much of the action while Philadelphia struggles to find consistent offensive production, keeping the combined scoring on the lower side.
