Use Code SSWC The Eastern Conference in the NHL is set to be a very tough fight all season long, and on Thursday we'll see two intriguing, playoff hopeful teams do battle with our Philadelphia Flyers vs. Ottawa Senators prediction.
The Philadelphia Flyers (3-2-1) have shown some solid flashes early in the 2025/26 season, and with their young core all stepping up around the veterans, this isn't a team that can be taken easily in the Metropolitan Division.
On Thursday they take on the Ottawa Senators (2-4-1), a team that's still learning how to win without their biggest star and their captain, but with a deep roster full of talent, it's only a matter of time until they start building genuine momentum. Can the Flyers start finding success at home?
The Philadelphia Flyers wrapped up a four-game home stand with a 3-1-0 record, but this season they're just 0-1-1 away from home, and if they're to compete in the competitive Metropolitan Division, they'll need to turn that around in a hurry. Offensively, the Flyers have been off to a solid start in 2025/26 with 3.00 goals scored per game, and with the emergence of free agent signing Dan Vladar, they may have found themselves a stud as they rank 10th in the league with a 2.67 GAA through six games.
Philadelphia has had plenty of promising performances early in the year, led by captain Sean Couturier with seven points, and with Tyson Foerster, Trevor Zegras and Owen Tippett all having five or more, the future is very bright for this team. Last time out for the Flyers was a dominant win over the Seattle Kraken, with three assists to Cam York leading the way as Dan Vladar stopped 21 of the 23 shots he saw as they came away winners 5-2.
Expected goaltender: Dan Vladar (1.75 GAA and a .929 save percentage in four games).
Can the Senators turn around recent momentum?
The Ottawa Senators ended their Stanley Cup Playoffs drought a year ago, and now they enter 2025/26 with very high expectations, but with the team going 1-3-0 at home this season on top of an injury to Brady Tkachuk, things aren't looking promising early. The biggest issue for the Senators has been their goaltending, as they allow the second most goals in the league thus far with a 4.71 GAA this season, and while the offense has shown promise, averaging 3.00 goals a game, it simply hasn't been enough to keep them competitive.
In Tkachuk's absence, Ottawa's offense has been led by Shane Pinto with an impressive 8 points on the year, and with the duo of Dylan Cozens and Jake Sanderson having 6 and 5, there have been plenty of flashes for this team in 2025/26. Last time out for the Senators was a dramatic loss to the Edmonton Oilers, with goals to Cozens and Chabot enough to send this one to overtime, but with Ullmark allowing his third goal on his 25th shot faced, they came away losers 3-2.
Expected goaltender: Linus Ullmark (3.80 GAA and an .854 save percentage in six games).
Philadelphia Flyers vs. Ottawa Senators picks
Moneyline pick for Flyers vs. Senators
- Ottawa -150 (4 units)
On paper, the Flyers have been the much better team between the two this season, but in recent times, this has been a rivalry dominated by the Senators, who have posted a 7-3 record in their last 10 head-to-head matchups with Philadelphia.
On top of that, they came out victorious in two of their three meetings in 2024/25, and with the Senators having a fantastic offense this season, expect them to get just enough goaltending in this one to turn things around.
Over/under pick for Flyers vs. Senators
- Over 6 (5 units)
This season, the offense has been a major strength of both these teams, as they both average three goals a game, and after 23 total goals were scored in three head-to-head encounters a year ago, expect this one to be high-scoring too.
For the Flyers, the over sits at 4-2 in six games this season, with three or more goals scored in three of their last five, and for the Senators, the over comes in at 5-2 this year, with the team allowing three or more goals in each one of them.
Keep it simple, take the over.
