The Flyers have two games in two nights this week, and the second one takes them to Washington. Philadelphia hosts Columbus on Tuesday before visiting the Capitals at Capital One Arena on Wednesday. The game starts at 7:30 pm ET on TNT and truTV. Washington is 6-4-0 and fourth in the Metropolitan Division, having beaten Buffalo 4-3 in overtime on Saturday. Philadelphia is seventh in the division at 3-7-3. The Flyers lost 5-4 to Anaheim in their most recent outing, ending a run of three consecutive victories. Washington has also been playing better lately, winning three of its previous four games. Cash a winning ticket using our free NHL picks.

Philadelphia Flyers Still Searching for Goals

For a few games, Philadelphia looked like it was starting to turn things around. The Flyers beat Ottawa 3-1 on October 17 and managed another close win over Colorado, 3-2, two days later. A trip to Buffalo brought a third victory, with Philadelphia holding the Sabres to one goal in a 3-1 result. Then Anaheim visited Saturday and scored five, handing the Flyers a 5-4 defeat. Philadelphia had scored nine goals across those three wins, which is actually above its usual pace. The Flyers have only 24 goals in 13 games this season. They also spend a lot of time defending, facing an average of 31.5 shots per game while taking just 22.7 themselves.

There's a big gap between Philadelphia's leading scorers and the rest of its lineup. Matvei Michkov has eight goals, accounting for a third of the team's total. Four have come on the power play. Trevor Zegras has three goals and seven assists, matching Michkov's 10 points. Porter Martone has five points, and Denver Barkey has four assists. Travis Sanheim also has four points while averaging nearly 26 minutes on the ice. Philadelphia has been splitting the goaltending work between Joseph Woll and Dan Vladar. Woll is 1-4-2 with a 2.99 GAA and .904 save percentage. Vladar has two wins, a 3.15 GAA and .900 save percentage. After Tuesday's game against Columbus, the Flyers won't have a day off before facing Washington.

Injuries: Cam York, Owen Tippett, Travis Konecny and Nikita Grebenkin are out.

Washington Capitals Have Enjoyed Playing at Home

Washington has spent plenty of time at Capital One Arena lately, winning five of its seven home games so far. Saturday's meeting with Buffalo was a close one. The Capitals needed overtime to get past the Sabres 4-3, but it was another victory after a 5-2 loss to Los Angeles earlier in the week. Before that defeat, Washington had beaten New Jersey 4-2 and Montreal 5-4. The Capitals have won three of their last four games, scoring 15 goals during that stretch. Washington has averaged 3.40 goals per game this season, although giving up 3.20 has made several of those wins more difficult than necessary.

Alex Tuch has scored seven goals in just 10 games, and four have been game-winners. He's taken 27 shots, giving Washington a dependable scoring threat whenever the puck reaches him. Dylan Strome has nine points too, but he's done more of his work setting up teammates, with six assists. Ryan Leonard has four goals and four assists, while Jordan Kyrou has eight points. Boone Jenner has chipped in with four goals, and Jakob Chychrun has seven points from defense. Washington won't have Logan Thompson available in goal. Charlie Lindgren is 2-1-0 with a 2.98 GAA and .886 save percentage, leaving him with an important role against Philadelphia.

Injuries: Logan Thompson, Vincent Desharnais, Rasmus Sandin and Patrick Thomas are out.

Key To The Game

Philadelphia's schedule is a major concern. The Flyers have to face Columbus on Tuesday before traveling to Washington, where the Capitals are 5-2-0. Philadelphia also needs more offense against a Washington team averaging 3.40 goals per game.

Philadelphia Flyers vs Washington Capitals Game Pick

  • Washington Capitals

Washington has the better offense and a strong home record, while Philadelphia has struggled to score consistently. The Flyers will also be playing their second game in two nights after facing Columbus on Tuesday. Tuch has seven goals, and Strome gives Washington another reliable scoring option. Lindgren's numbers aren't spectacular, but Philadelphia averages only 1.85 goals per game. The Capitals take advantage of the schedule and win at home Wednesday.

Philadelphia Flyers vs Washington Capitals Over/Under Pick

  • Under

Philadelphia has scored only 24 goals in 13 games, and playing on consecutive nights won't make generating offense any easier. Washington has allowed 3.20 goals per game, but the Flyers haven't been getting enough shots to punish opponents regularly. The Capitals can control this game through Tuch and Strome without needing a high-scoring finish. Philadelphia's recent wins were tight games, and the under is the pick on Wednesday night.
