Can the Sharks turn promise into production?
The San Jose Sharks are well and truly into their rebuild, and while they've clearly got some stars of the future on the roster, with a 2-3-0 record away from home this season, they find themselves in the all too familiar seventh place in the Pacific Division. Offensively, the Sharks have taken a leap this season as they average a solid 3.23 goals per game this year, but as they rank 32nd in the league with a 4.00 GAA, this team still has plenty of work to do to become competitive moving forward.
Once again, it's Macklin Celebrini leading the way for San Jose with 18 points in 13 games played, and with both William Eklund and Will Smith posting 11 each this year, it's become clear that the youth movement is proving fruitful. Last time out for the Sharks was a shootout loss to the Detroit Red Wings, with goals to Skinner and Dickinson leading the way as they fell just short 3-2 despite 30 saves from Alex Nedeljkovic.
Expected starting goaltender: Yaroslav Askarov (4.29 GAA and an .867 save percentage in seven games).
Can the Kraken keep up their hot start?
Many people overlooked the Seattle Kraken coming into the 2025/26 season, but with the team going 4-0-2 and collecting points in all six home games to this point, showing that they could be considered genuine contenders this season. The biggest source of the Kraken's success thus far has been their 2.67 GAA on the season, ranking them sixth in the entire NHL, and while the offense needs to improve, scoring just 2.75 goals a game, this is a team that's showing plenty of promise in 2025/26.
In 12 games, Seattle are led in scoring by Jordan Eberle and Jaden Schwartz with just 10 points each, but with good depth and five other players scoring six or more points thus far, there's definitely potential there for this team. Last time out for the Kraken was a dominant win over the Chicago Blackhawks, with two points each to Eberle and Matty Beniers leading the way as Joey Daccord made an impressive 29 saves on 30 shots as they came away winners 3-1.
Expected starting goaltender: Joey Daccord (2.53 GAA and a .910 save percentage in 10 games).
San Jose Sharks vs. Seattle Kraken picks
Moneyline pick for Sharks vs. Kraken
- Seattle -167 (5 units)
Coming into this season, many people would have seen this as a tight matchup, but early in the year the Kraken have been absolutely dominant going 4-0-2 at home as they look to solidify themselves as a major contender.
While the head-to-head record between them sits at 5-5 in their last 10 meetings, the Kraken won the last two matchups a season ago, and with a 3-2 record in their last five in Seattle, expect the Kraken to pick up a big win in this game.
Over/under pick for Sharks vs. Kraken
- Over 6 (4 units)
On paper, this is a matchup that will be defined by the Sharks' great offense and the Kraken's elite goaltending, but when they do battle, the over is 5-4-1 in their last 10 head-to-head encounters, with 14 combined goals scored in two matchups in Seattle last season.
For the Sharks, the over sits at 6-4 in their last 10 overall games, with 23 goals allowed in their last five games played on the road, and for the Kraken, the over comes in at 5-5 in their past 10, with three goals a game scored during that time.
Keep it simple, take the over.
