Can the Sharks translate promise into success?
The San Jose Sharks have a number of top picks on this current roster, and with the core building nicely, the future is bright as the team hit the road for their first game away from home in the 2025/26 regular season. Through three games, the Sharks' offense hasn't been an issue as they've put up 10 goals to this point, but with the team allowing 16, they're likely not going to be consistently competitive in 2025/26.
Unsurprisingly, the offense that San Jose has gotten comes from the young duo of Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith, both with three points each, and with nine different players tallying two points thus far, this is clearly going to be a very fun squad. Last time out for the Sharks was a tough loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, with the lone goal to William Eklund all the offense they could muster as Alex Nedeljkovic made 38 saves with the team falling 5-1.
Expected goaltender: Yaroslav Askarov (6.93 GAA, .841 save percentage in one start)
Can the Mammoth take a genuine run at the post-season this year?
The Utah Mammoth have unveiled a brand new look for this season, and after some solid moves in the off-season, this is a team that's ready to take a step forward, with their young core showing they can put together consistent hockey. Simply put, this season the Mammoth have had success when scoring well and struggling in their losses, as they've averaged one goal a game in their losses while putting up three goals in each victory.
Like San Jose, Utah's success hinges on their young names, with Dylan Guenther posting four points through their first four games, and with two players posting three points each, this is a team that's full of star power for the present and the future. Last time out for the Mammoth was a big win over the Calgary Flames, with goals to Peterka, Hayton and Stenlund leading the way as Karel Vejmelka stopped 19 of the 20 shots he saw as they came away winners 3-1.
Expected goaltender: Karel Vejmelka (1.67 GAA and a .929 save percentage in three starts)
San Jose Sharks vs. Utah Mammoth picks
Moneyline pick for Sharks vs. Mammoth
- Utah -1.5 (4 units)
The San Jose Sharks are yet to play away from home in 2025/26, while the Utah Mammoth won their home opener in their last game, and given the Sharks' struggles away from home last season, it's easy to see why Utah is favored in this one.
Last season, the Mammoth came away winners in two of their three head-to-head matchups, and with the goaltending much more consistent than San Jose this year, expect them to pick up another big win in this one.
Over/under pick for Sharks vs. Mammoth
- Under 7.5 (4 units)
While the under was just 1-2 in three head-to-head encounters between these two teams, but in their final one, there were a total of just three goals scored, with both of these teams having confidence in their young goaltenders.
For the Sharks, the under sits at 1-2 this season, with the team scoring three or fewer goals in two of those games, and for the Mammoth, the under comes in at 4-0 this season, with the team allowing just eight total goals in that span.
Keep it simple, take the under.
