Seattle visits Calgary on Friday after beating Toronto 5-4 on Wednesday. The Kraken are 8-4-1, third in the Pacific Division with 17 points, and have won three of their last four games. Calgary had won four straight before losing 4-0 at Edmonton on Wednesday. The Flames are 5-7-0, sixth in the Pacific with 10 points. Friday's game starts at 8:00 pm ET at Scotiabank Saddledome, with coverage on ESPN+. Seattle is 4-2-1 on the road, while Calgary is 4-3 at home. Check our free NHL picks for more matchups.

Seattle Kraken Have Been Finding the Net

Seattle's 5-4 win over Toronto was another busy night for the scoreboard. The Kraken also scored five against Utah last Thursday and beat Detroit 4-3 in a shootout two days earlier. Their only loss during that stretch came against Minnesota, which won 5-1 in Seattle. The Kraken also suffered an 8-3 defeat at Florida earlier in October. Scoring hasn't been the problem lately. Keeping opponents quiet has been tougher, with Seattle allowing 24 goals across its previous five games.

Frederick Gaudreau has six goals despite taking only 14 shots, while Mackie Samoskevich has scored five times. Chandler Stephenson leads Seattle with 11 points, including nine assists. The Kraken average 3.58 goals per game, but their goaltending has been inconsistent. Philipp Grubauer has five wins and a 2.77 goals-against average. Joey Daccord has struggled more, allowing 3.95 goals per appearance. Seattle has also killed only 70.6% of penalties, a concern against Calgary's dangerous power play.

Injuries: Jared McCann, Jacob Melanson, Ryan Lindgren and Jake O'Brien are out.

Calgary Flames Coming Off a Rough Night

Calgary had been enjoying its best stretch of the season before Wednesday's visit to Edmonton. The Flames won four consecutive games, beating Carolina 3-2, Minnesota 2-1, Detroit 4-1 and Toronto 5-2. Then the Oilers shut them out 4-0. Calgary couldn't extend its winning streak, but those earlier victories showed considerable improvement after a difficult start. Three of the four wins came at home, where the Flames will play again Friday. They'll need a better attacking performance than they managed in Edmonton.

Joel Farabee has done much of Calgary's playmaking, recording eight assists and 11 points. Matt Coronato also has eight assists, while Matvei Gridin leads the team with four goals. Calgary averages just 2.55 goals per game, although its power play has converted 30% of its opportunities. Devin Cooley has four victories, a .914 save percentage and a 2.67 goals-against average. He's listed as day-to-day, however. Dustin Wolf has struggled in his five appearances, posting a .839 save percentage and allowing 4.85 goals per game.

Injuries: Jonathan Huberdeau and Samuel Honzek are out. Brennan Othmann and Devin Cooley are day-to-day.

Key To The Game

Calgary's goaltending situation deserves attention, particularly with Cooley on the injury report. Wolf has allowed considerably more goals, and Seattle has scored at least four times in three of its last four games. The Flames have another possible advantage, though. Their power play is converting 30% of chances against a Kraken penalty kill sitting at 70.6%. Seattle needs to avoid unnecessary penalties. Calgary also has to find more scoring at even strength, especially after being shut out Wednesday.

Seattle Kraken vs Calgary Flames Game Pick

  • Seattle Kraken

Seattle has been scoring regularly, and Calgary could have problems if Cooley cannot play. The Kraken have reached four goals in three of their last four outings, with several forwards contributing. Calgary's recent four-game winning streak deserves respect, especially with three victories coming at home. Still, Wednesday's shutout against Edmonton was disappointing. Seattle has the stronger scoring average and more options in attack. I expect the Flames to respond offensively, but the Kraken should create enough chances to win. I'm taking Seattle on the road.

Seattle Kraken vs Calgary Flames Over/Under Pick

  • Over

Seattle's last five games have produced combined totals of nine, six, eight, seven, and 11 goals. The Kraken have scored regularly but haven't been particularly convincing defensively. Calgary has also shown more offense recently, scoring five against Toronto and four against Detroit before Wednesday's shutout. Both teams have productive power plays, especially the Flames, who are converting 30% of their chances. Seattle's penalty killing could give Calgary opportunities to get back on the scoreboard. I expect goals at both ends Friday, making the over my pick.
