The Blues are traveling to the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, for their game against the Flames; keep reading for our Blues versus Flames prediction. St. Louis ended their season last year fifth in the Central Division with a record of 44-30-8. Calgary finished fourth in the Pacific Division last season with a record of 41-27-14. The Flames had a record of 0-2-1 versus the Blues in 2024-25. The puck drop is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. EDT. Nobody does it better when it comes to NHL picks!

Blues Unable To Find The Back Of The Net

St. Louis is coming off a loss in their home opener on Thursday against the Wild with a final score of 5-0. The Blues now head on a short two-game road trip and aim to bounce back after a rough loss to kick off their season. The Blues made it to the first round of the playoffs last season but were knocked out by the Jets in a 3-4 series loss.

The Blues are starting their season off on a low note as they were unable to score a goal in their first game of the season. St. Louis had 26 shots on net, but none were able to penetrate past Wild goaltender Filip Gustavsson. While scoring was not an issue last year do to an 11.4% shooting percentage (8th), it will be an issue this season if they are unable to replicate their quality of shooting. The Blues last season were 28th in shots per game, averaging 26.66 shots on average. Without decent shot quality, the Blues would not have produced as many goals as they did last season. While they did face off against one of the better teams in the Central division this season, we will have to keep an eye on the Blues and see if they are capable of generating more offense.

We will likely see Jordan Binnington get the start in net for the Blues on Saturday.

Flames’ Rough Schedule

The Flames picked up their first loss of the season on Wednesday versus the Canucks with a final score of 5-1. The Flames just ended a two-game road trip to kick off their season, ending in a 1-1 record. Calgary now returns home for a two-game home stand, where they will have their home opener against the Blues on Saturday.

Calgary has had a rough start to the season as they played back-to-back games on the road first against Edmonton, then against Vancouver. While they did grab the win against the Oilers, it was an overtime win in a shootout and was not their best quality of hockey. Following that late win, the Flames had to face off against Vancouver in their home opener, which resulted in a huge loss for the Flames. Calgary was unable to generate much offense, and their goaltending looked shaky in the back-to-back match. Calgary opted to start Dustin Wolf in both games despite playing a back-to-back, which may have been the reason for the increase in goals allowed.

Goaltender Dustin Wolf is expected to play on Saturday against the Blues.

Dustin Wolf:

  • was 29-16-8 in 53 games with a goals against average of 2.64 and a save percentage of .910 in his rookie season in 2024-25.
  • has a 0-2-0 record in 2 games with a goals against average of 4.08 and a save percentage of .830 versus the Blues in his career.

Injuries:

  1. Huberdeau LW Out - Undisclosed
  2. Pospisil C Out - Undisclosed

Blues vs. Flames Picks and Predictions

Puck Line Pick for Blues vs. Flames

  • Blues -1.5 (+210) (4 units)Β

The Blues have a record of 8-2 against the puck line in their last ten games versus the Flames. The Flames had a record of 3-5 against the puck line as underdogs against the Central Division at home in 2024-25. Jordan Binnington has a record of 4-1-0 in 5 games with a goals against average of 3.93 and a save percentage of .888 versus the Flames on the road in his career. The Blues are going to look for a huge bounce-back game offensively after scoring zero goals in their home opener against the Wild. Calgary is playing their third game in the last four days and this also includes goaltender Dustin Wolf. Even if this is a home opener for Calgary, the team is still going to be exhausted going into this game, and I suspect fatigue to catch up with them, leading to a one-sided game.

Over/Under Pick for Blues vs. Flames

  • Over 5.5 (-118) (5 units)Β

The Blues have an over/under record of 6-1 in their last seven games against the Flames on the road. The Flames had an over/under record of 9-3 against the Central Division at home in 2024-25. Neither team has shown much defense to start this season, and with the Flames’ defense likely to be fatigued playing their third game in four days, we should see a lot of back-and-forth hockey and a high-scoring game. St. Louis will also be hunting for goals as they were unable to generate any in their home opener. The Blues alone could very well lead us over the total, but I suspect the Flames will scrap together a few goals to help with the over.
