The Tampa Bay Lightning travel to Salt Lake City to face the Utah Mammoth at the Delta Center on Sunday at 3:30 PM ET, with coverage on NHL Network. Tampa Bay enters the matchup on a four-game win streak, improving to 5-4-2 after an overtime win against Dallas. Utah is 8-3-0 overall and unbeaten at home, coming off a 6-3 loss to Edmonton that ended its seven-game run of victories. Skate to an edge with NHL picks for the Tampa Bay Lightning vs. the Utah Mammoth.

Lightning Look to Keep Rolling

The Lightning have turned a sluggish start into a strong run, winning four straight behind tougher defense and timely scoring. Tampa Bay averages 2.82 goals per game while allowing the same number, supported by a 15.4 percent power play and an 89.2 percent penalty kill, one of the league’s best, though the power play could improve. Anthony Cirelli has led the push with 10 points, including six goals, and his overtime winner against Dallas capped another solid performance.

Brandon Hagel finally broke through with his first power-play goal in over a year, and Andrei Vasilevskiy made 20 saves in the 2-1 win. The Lightning have shown composure late, taking two of their last four games in overtime. The defense limited the Stars to just 21 shots, a sign of improved spacing in their own zone. With 27 shots per game on offense, Tampa Bay’s scoring comes from shot selection rather than volume.

Tampa Bay’s previous win in Nashville was its most complete outing of the season, producing five goals while holding the Predators to two. Vasilevskiy has regained his rhythm, posting a 2.61 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage in eight starts. Backup Jonas Johansson has produced when called upon. After winning just once in the first seven games, the Lightning are now above .500 and moving up the Atlantic standings.

  • Niko Huuhtanen (RW) IR-NR – expected return Nov 4

Utah Mammoth Aim to Stay Perfect at Home

Utah’s 8-3 record includes a 4-0 home mark, backed by an aggressive offense that averages 3.64 goals per game. Nick Schmaltz continues to lead the attack with 17 points and 10 assists, while Logan Cooley leads the team with eight goals, including three on the power play. The power play has converted at 21.1 percent, though penalty killing remains an issue at 73.5 percent, a weakness opponents have exploited of late.

The Mammoth’s 6-3 loss in Edmonton snapped a seven-game winning streak, the longest of the season. Despite the setback, Utah’s second-period collapse, allowing five goals, was out of sync for a team that had been dominant at even strength. Cooley opened the scoring, his fourth time doing so this year, while JJ Peterka and Barrett Hayton added goals. Karel Vejmelka allowed five goals on 26 shots but has been solid overall with a 6-2 record and 2.75 GAA.

The Mammoth have outshot opponents by nearly five shots per game, and the ability to sustain pressure has been key to their dominance at home. Backup goalie Vitek Vanecek has also played well when called upon, with a 2.01 GAA and .913 save percentage.

Injuries:

  • Alexander Kerfoot (C) IR – expected return Dec 19
  • Sean Durzi (D) IR – expected return Nov 12
  • Anson Thornton (G) IR-NR – expected return Nov 9
  • Juuso Valimaki (D) IR-NR – expected return Nov 17
  • Terrell Goldsmith (D) IR-NR – expected return Nov 8

Tampa Bay Lightning at Utah Mammoth Pick

Spread Pick for Lightning vs. Utah Mammoth

  • Utah Mammoth (-2) (4 Units)

Utah’s undefeated home record and consistency on attack give it the edge against a surging Tampa Bay squad that’s been grinding out close games. The Mammoth’s scoring, led by Schmaltz and Cooley, should test Tampa Bay’s penalty kill, which has been a key factor during its win streak. If Utah’s blue line holds steady and Vejmelka plays well between the pipes, a win at home will take place Sunday. Tampa Bay’s streak will come to an end against Utah’s pressure-heavy attack. Expect a competitive game, but the Mammoth have more scoring and a more rested roster.

Over/Under Pick for Lightning vs. Mammoth

  • Over 6.0 (4 Units)

Utah averages 3.64 goals per game, while Tampa Bay sits just under 3.0, combining for nearly six goals nightly. Both teams have had some success on power plays, Utah at 21.1 percent, Tampa Bay near 15 percent, and capable scorers in Cirelli and Cooley who can capitalize on special-teams chances. The Mammoth have seen totals reach six or more in five of the last six, and Tampa Bay’s recent uptick in scoring suggests its pace will stay high. Expect both teams to trade goals early, pushing this one past the number in the third period.
