Tampa Bay Lightning vs Winnipeg Jets Picks and Prediction for Sunday November 8 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 11/08/2026, 12:10 AM ET

Tampa Bay heads to Winnipeg on Sunday for a 6 PM ET game against the Jets at Canada Life Centre. The Lightning have been one of the better teams in hockey, but this isn’t the easiest spot for them. They have Minnesota on Saturday, then travel to Winnipeg for another game Sunday. The Jets have had a couple of days to rest. Tampa Bay already beat Winnipeg 6-4 on October 29, and I think the Lightning have the better team. But that schedule makes me a little nervous. The NHL season is starting to get a full swing so make sure you are ready for all the games with our free NHL picks.

Tampa Bay Lightning Have Been Getting Plenty of Offense

Tampa Bay is 10-3-2 heading into Saturday’s game against Minnesota. The Lightning have earned points in their last five games, going 3-0-2 during that stretch. They’ve been scoring well and doing enough defensively to keep winning. Tampa Bay’s last completed game was a 4-1 victory over Chicago on Thursday, and that’s the kind of performance the Lightning would like to repeat.

The Lightning are averaging 3.67 goals per game and allowing three. They’re also generating more than 30 shots a night while allowing only about 24. That’s a pretty good difference. Tampa Bay has been controlling possession and making opponents work to get quality chances. Against Winnipeg, that’s important because the Jets have been giving up too many goals and haven’t been scoring enough to cover for those mistakes.

Yanni Gourde remains unavailable with a hip injury. That takes away some depth, but Tampa Bay has been getting enough production throughout the lineup. The bigger concern is the schedule. Four games in six nights, including Saturday in Minnesota and Sunday in Winnipeg, is a tough stretch. The Lightning have the better offensive numbers, but tired legs could become a problem late.

Winnipeg Jets Need to Get Their Defense Straightened Out

Winnipeg is 6-8-3 after beating Vancouver 6-2 on Thursday. That was a good offensive performance, but the Jets have been struggling to win consistently. They’re 2-7-1 over their last ten games, and that’s not what anybody expected from this club. Winnipeg has been giving up too many chances and hasn’t been getting enough offense on a regular basis.

The Jets are averaging 2.65 goals per game and allowing 3.53. That’s a pretty big difference. Winnipeg is also giving up about 29 shots a night, while Tampa Bay is generating more than 30. That’s a matchup I don’t particularly like for the Jets. Their penalty kill has been another problem, operating below 70%. Tampa Bay’s power play hasn’t been spectacular, but the Lightning should get some opportunities.

Josh Morrissey and Vladislav Namestnikov are out, while Nick Bjugstad is unavailable for the season. Haydn Fleury’s status also needs checking. That’s a lot of missing help for a team already struggling defensively. Winnipeg has the rest advantage, and that matters. But the Jets still have to figure out how to slow down a Tampa Bay offense that’s been scoring nearly four goals a game.

Tampa Bay Lightning vs Winnipeg Jets Picks and Prediction

Moneyline Pick: Tampa Bay Lightning

I’m taking Tampa Bay. The schedule worries me, and Winnipeg should be the fresher team. But the Lightning are scoring more than a goal per game above the Jets, and they’re allowing fewer shots and goals. That’s a pretty big difference. Winnipeg just scored six against Vancouver, but the Canucks have been giving up goals to everybody. Tampa Bay is a much tougher opponent. I think the Lightning have enough offense to win, even on short rest.

Total Pick: Over 5.5 Goals

Give me the over 5.5 if that’s the number. Tampa Bay is averaging 3.67 goals, and Winnipeg is allowing 3.53. The Lightning already scored six against the Jets in their first meeting. Winnipeg should get some chances, too, especially against a tired Tampa Bay team playing its second game in two nights. The concern is the Lightning slowing the pace and making this a 3-2 game. But I think Tampa Bay gets at least three, and Winnipeg contributes enough to push us past five.

Final Picks: Tampa Bay Lightning Moneyline | Over 5.5 Goals (if available)
