Can the Mammoth continue their red-hot start?
The Utah Mammoth have been building a very impressive young core, and with a 5-3-0 record on the road to start the 2025/26 campaign, they're starting to look like a genuine Stanley Cup Playoffs threat in the Western Conference. With 3.50 goals per game this season, the Mammoth's offense is finally coming alive, and with the team also ranking 11th in the NHL with a 2.63 GAA, they've got the balance that makes them a genuine contender this season.
Not only does Utah have star power at the top of their lineup, with Nick Schmaltz leading the way with 18 points in 13 games played, and with five other players already in double digits, this is a team that's getting scoring from everywhere on their roster. Last time out for the Mammoth was a tight win over the Buffalo Sabres, with a goal and an assist to captain Clayton Keller leading the way as Karel Vejmelka made 17 saves, leading them to a much-needed 2-1 road victory.
Expected starting goaltender: Vitek Vanacek (2.01 GAA and a .913 save percentage in three games).
Can the Maple Leafs find their consistency?
The Toronto Maple Leafs famously lost one of their top superstars over the summer, and while they haven't been perfect overall, a 6-2-1 record at home shows that they're still a very dangerous contender in the Atlantic Division. Unsurprisingly, this team can still score goals at a high rate, as they average 3.62 goals per game this season, but with the team ranking in the bottom third of the league with a 3.62 GAA, it's safe to say they need to use the regular season to improve upon their one major weakness.
For Toronto, their success comes from their top stars once again, with William Nylander (18 points) leading the way, while Matthew Knies and John Tavares come in close behind with 16, while Auston Matthews' struggles need to be figured out rather quickly. Last time out for the Maple Leafs was a massive comeback win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, with three points to Nylander leading the way as they scored four goals in the third period to come away with a 4-3 victory.
Expected starting goaltender: Anthony Stolarz (3.12 GAA and an .896 GAA in 10 games).
Utah Mammoth vs. Toronto Maple Leafs picks
Moneyline pick for Mammoth vs. Maple Leafs
- Toronto -160 (4 units)
These two teams met twice a season ago in Utah's inaugural season, and in that time, the Maple Leafs won both encounters, as the Mammoth struggled mightily away from home in 2024/25.
This season, Toronto has absolutely dominated at home, going 6-2-1 in Toronto in 2025/26, and with the Mammoth on the second night of a back-to-back after a tough victory on Tuesday night, expect the Maple Leafs to take advantage with a big victory.
Over/under pick for Mammoth vs. Maple Leafs
- Over 6 (5 units)
On paper, the matchup of goaltenders in this one is rather exciting, but in 2025/26, both of these teams rank in the top-10 in the NHL in goals scored per game, so this one too, should be a very high-scoring matchup.
For the Mammoth, the over sits at 5-5 in their last 10 overall games, with three or more goals scored in eight of those, and for the Maple Leafs, the over comes in at 9-1 in their past 10, with 3.7 goals scored per game during that span.
Keep it simple, take the over.
