Vegas Golden Knights vs Buffalo Sabres Picks and Prediction for Sunday November 8 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 11/08/2026, 12:00 AM ET

Vegas heads to Buffalo on Sunday afternoon for a 3:30 PM ET game against the Sabres at KeyBank Center. This is one of those games where I wouldn’t be surprised if either team won. Vegas has the better overall record, but Buffalo has been collecting points pretty consistently. The early moneyline is close to even, with the total sitting around 5.5 goals. The Golden Knights have a rest advantage, and that’s what pushes me slightly toward the visitors. The NHL season is starting to get a full swing so make sure you are ready for all the games with our free NHL picks.

Vegas Golden Knights Have Been Getting Results

Vegas is 11-5-2, including 5-2-2 on the road, after beating Detroit 2-1 on Thursday. The Golden Knights have won two straight, and they’ve been playing better defensively. That’s important because Vegas hasn’t always been consistent this season. When the Golden Knights keep opponents to two goals or fewer, they’re difficult to beat.

Vegas is averaging approximately 3.3 goals per game and allowing 2.7. That’s a pretty healthy difference. The Golden Knights have been getting enough offense to win, but they’re also doing a decent job limiting scoring chances. Against Buffalo, that defensive work matters because the Sabres have been capable of putting up three or four goals when things are going well.

Parker Wotherspoon is unavailable, which affects the defensive depth. Vegas has still been getting results without a completely healthy lineup. The Golden Knights have enough scoring throughout the roster that they don’t need to depend on one line every night. That’s an advantage against Buffalo, especially if the Sabres have trouble getting consistent goaltending.

Buffalo Sabres Have Been Competitive but Inconsistent

Buffalo is 8-5-3, including 4-4 at home, heading into Sunday. The Sabres have earned points in eight of their last 10 games, so they’ve been doing a pretty good job staying competitive. But they haven’t been especially dependable in their own building. A .500 home record isn’t what you want when you’re facing a Vegas team that’s been winning on the road.

Buffalo is averaging about 3.1 goals per game and allowing 3.3. That’s a little concerning. The Sabres have enough offense to win games, but they’re giving up too many chances. Against Vegas, that can become a problem because the Golden Knights don’t need a lot of opportunities to score.

Alex Lyon and Matt Grzelcyk are unavailable, and those injuries matter. Lyon’s absence affects the goaltending depth, while Grzelcyk’s injury takes away another option on defense. Buffalo has been finding ways to collect points, but the Sabres need a strong performance in goal to beat Vegas. I don’t see this as a game where Buffalo can afford to give up four or five.

Vegas Golden Knights vs Buffalo Sabres Picks and Prediction

Moneyline Pick: Vegas Golden Knights (-104)

I’m taking Vegas at around -104. Buffalo has been competitive, and I understand the argument for the Sabres at home. But Vegas has been the better defensive team, allowing about 2.7 goals compared with Buffalo’s 3.3. The Golden Knights are also 5-2-2 on the road and have an extra day of rest. This isn’t a game where I’d be looking to lay a big price. At something close to even money, though, I like Vegas.

Total Pick: Over 5.5 Goals

Give me the over 5.5. Buffalo is averaging 3.1 goals and allowing 3.3, while Vegas is scoring around 3.3. That’s enough offense on both sides to make six goals realistic. The concern is Vegas slowing things down and turning this into another 2-1 game like Thursday against Detroit. That’s possible. But Buffalo’s defense has been giving up too many chances, and I think the Golden Knights get at least three. If the Sabres contribute a couple and we get an empty-netter, we’re in business.

Final Picks: Vegas Golden Knights Moneyline (-104) | Over 5.5 Goals
