We have an exciting Pacific Division NHL matchup as the Vegas Golden Knights and Calgary Flames are battling it out at the Scotiabank Saddledome in our Golden Knights vs. Flames prediction. The Golden Knights (1-0-2, 4 points) are second in the division after a 2-1 overtime road loss on Saturday against the Seattle Kraken. The Flames (1-2-0, 2 points) are last in the division as they are on a two-game losing streak after Saturdayโ€™s 4-2 home loss against the St. Louis Blues. This is the first of four games against each other as they will also play on Saturday. Stay out of the box: NHL predictions for Vegas Golden Knights at Calgary Flames, crisp and clear.

Golden Knights Looking to Get Going

The Vegas Golden Knights, sitting in second place in the Pacific Division with a 2-0-1 record, head into this game losing two of their first three games heading into this game. The latest game against the Seattle Kraken, played on the road in overtime, ended in a 2-1 loss, but the team managed to get 27 shots on goal during the game.

Offensively, Vegas has been sitting in the middle of the league, scoring 3.33 goals per game, which is tied for 11th in the sport. Their offensive attack has struggled as they have scored less goals in each game since the opener. The Golden Knightsโ€™ power play has been at a great level, converting at a 30.8% clip, meaning they need to improve more on the full-strength scoring. Their defensive game indicates that they will likely be in a weaker position, conceding an average of 3.33 goals per game, highlighting an area for improvement in the early stages of the season.

On the goaltending front, goaltender Adin Hill is going to need to step up in the net for this game and is 0-0-2 with a .854 save percentage and 3.24 goals per game given up. If Vegas can improve at defense, they will be in a spot to be where people expect them to be.

Flames Looking to Heat Up

The Calgary Flames, playing at a poor level up to this point as they are in last place in the Pacific Division with a 1-2-0 record, face a team that has a lot of talent. Their recent game at home against the Blues, a 4-2 loss, reflects a team that can struggle to defend the net. Right winger Matt Coronato is leading the franchise with three points (two goals, one assist). The Flames are looking to improve and need to be more aggressive.

Calgaryโ€™s offensive output has been terrible thus far, with the team sitting tied for 27th place in the league for goals scored, averaging 2.00 goals per game. The Flamesโ€™ power play, operating at a 14.3% success rate, and their penalty kill at 75.0%, highlight areas of the game that are hit-and-miss for them in the early stages of the season.

Goaltending is one of the teamโ€™s biggest positions of strength, with Dustin Wolf doing a lesser job this year as he is 1-2-0 with a .865 save percentage and 3.99 goals allowed per game. This team needs to improve defensively if they want to secure a win at home.

Injury Report for Calgary

  • Left winger Jonathan Huberdeau: Undisclosed (OUT)
  • Center Martin Pospisil: Undisclosed (OUT)

Vegas Golden Knights at Calgary Flames Pick

Spread Pick for Golden Knights vs. Flames

  • Vegas Golden Knights -150 (4 units)

The Vegas Golden Knights have been very close in their games as all three of their games have gone to overtime. These defenses are showing a bit of a divide in allowing shots on goal as the Golden Knights are fourth in the sport with 23.7 shots on goal against per game, while the Flames are 20th in the NHL with 29.7 opposing shots on goal. Vegas has the overall better talent and with Jonathan Huberdeau not going to be on the ice for Calgary, this is going to be difficult for them to score too many goals. The Golden Knights should be able to get on track and secure a win on the road here.

Over/Under Pick for Vegas Golden Knights at Calgary Flames

  • Under 5.5 (4 units)

Adin Hill and Dustin Wolf should be able to limit the amount of goals they allow throughout the game. If Pavel Dorofeyev does not score, the Golden Knights are going to struggle to find the back of the net as he has scored five of the team's 10 goals, including all four power play goals thus far. These offenses in their last two games have not shown the ability to score too much as the Golden Knights are averaging 2.5 goals per game in that stretch, while the Flames are scoring 1.5 goals in that span. The under hit in seven of the previous nine games against each other so take under 5.5 total goals in this game.
