The Vegas Golden Knights (5-0-2) made some big moves this off-season, and despite some key injuries early in the year, the team are off to a very fast start, recording a point in all seven games they've played this season.
On Saturday they battle the battle tested Florida Panthers (4-5-0), a team that have surprisingly started very slow in 2025/26, but with the team trying to adjust to injuries of their own, it's only a matter of time until they break out. Can the Golden Knights keep up their momentum?
The Vegas Golden Knights have seemingly been a contender since the moment they entered the NHL, and even with injuries to Mark Stone and Adin Hill coming into this one, they remain optimistic on the back of a 2-0-1 record on the road this season. Offensively, the Golden Knights are the best team in the NHL with 4.29 goals scored per game early in the year, and with the team holding their opponents to just 2.71 goals against, they've found the balance that makes them genuine contenders this season.
Unsurprisingly, it's the stars leading the way for Vegas, with Jack Eichel (16), Stone (13) and Mitch Marner (10) all off to red-hot starts, and with immense depth around them, this is a team that can score at will with any group on the ice. Last time out for the Golden Knights was a dominant win over the Carolina Hurricanes, with Marner and Ivan Barbashev both tallying two points on the night as Akira Schmid made 22 saves in relief, as they came away winners 4-1.
Expected starting goaltender: Akira Schmid (2.57 GAA and an .899 save percentage in four appearances).
Can the Panthers turn around their slow start?
The Florida Panthers have played plenty of hockey in recent years, and while they've got Stanley Cup hopes again this season, it may be catching up to them as they have dropped five of their last six games, falling to 4-5-0 early in the season. The biggest problem for the Panthers this season has been their offense, as they've been uncharacteristically poor with just 2.44 goals a night, and while the goaltending has been solid, holding opponents to 3.11 goals a night, but it's just not been enough to find momentum as of late.
What offense that Florida has gotten has come from Brad Marchand, who leads the team in scoring with 10 points through nine games, and with Anton Lundell the only other player at seven or more points, they're clearly struggling in a big way. Last time out for the Panthers was a very tough loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins, with two goals to Marchand not enough to get the job done as Sergei Bobrovsky allowed five goals on just 17 shots as they fell short 5-3.
Expected starting goaltender: Sergei Bobrovsky (2.61 GAA and an .893 save percentage in seven games).
Vegas Golden Knights vs. Florida Panthers picks
Moneyline pick for Golden Knights vs. Panthers
- Vegas -115 (4 units)
These two teams both have very high hopes this season, but to this point, only one of them has found their best hockey, with the Panthers winning just one of their last six, while the Golden Knights have taken points in all seven games.
On top of that, Vegas won their last battle against the Panthers in 2024/25, with the teams splitting their games 1-1 in that time, but with Florida having a tired goaltender and struggling to score all season, expect a big Golden Knights win in this one.
Over/Under pick for Golden Knights vs. Panthers
- Over 6 (4 units)
While the Panthers' offense has struggled in recent times, these two teams score plenty of goals when matched up against each other, with a combined 14 goals scored in two head-to-head encounters last season.
For the Golden Knights, the over sits at 5-2 this season, with the team scoring four or more goals in six of those games, and for the Panthers, the over comes in at 4-5 in nine games this year, with three or more goals allowed in six straight games.
Keep it simple, take the over.
