Washington is heading to Dallas after their loss on Saturday to the Senators with a final score of 7-1. This is only the second loss in the last eight games for the Capitals as they head on the road for Tuesday’s match before heading back home on Friday to face the Islanders. Washington is currently on a strange schedule where they do not have any consecutive road or home games for the next few games and will be bouncing back and forth between the road and home.
The Capitals are not showing signs of their previous success last season as they sit 19th in scoring so far this season. This is not for a lack of trying, as the Capitals rank ninth in shots, averaging 29.6 shots per game. To combat their poor offense this season, the Capitals have looked great on defense, leading the league in goals allowed. Washington is fourth in save percentage at .912 and is allowing an average of only 26.5 shots per game.

The Stars have struggled to put up goals this season as they sit 19th in scoring this season. This is due to their poor quality of shooting, ranking 20th in shooting percentage at 10.8%. Many of their goals this season have come from the power play, in which they rank third in the league at 32.3%. The Stars’ power play has been successful, but it has not been enough to carry the team to a win. The penalty kill for the Stars has not been as impressive, sitting 27th in the NHL at 67.9%.
