Washington Capitals vs Nashville Predators Picks and Predictions for Thursday, October 29, 2026

By: David Anicetti Published 10/29/2026, 01:05 PM ET

The Capitals have two games in two nights, and the second one takes them to Nashville on Thursday. Washington hosts Philadelphia on Wednesday before traveling to Bridgestone Arena to face the Predators. The Capitals are 6-4-0, fifth in the Metropolitan Division, and last beat Buffalo 4-3 in overtime. Nashville is also fifth in its division, sitting at 4-3-5 after Tuesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Islanders. Thursday's game starts at 8:00 pm ET on ESPN+. The Predators have Wednesday off, giving them a rest advantage. See our free NHL picks for more games.

Washington Capitals Have a Tough Turnaround

Washington's recent results have been a mixed bag. The Capitals needed overtime to beat Buffalo 4-3 on Saturday, having been beaten 5-2 by Los Angeles four days earlier. Before that defeat, Washington won 4-2 against New Jersey and 5-4 against Montreal. That's three victories in four games, with the Capitals scoring at least four goals in each win. The concern for Thursday is the schedule. Washington plays Philadelphia at home Wednesday, then has to make the trip to Nashville for another game the following evening. The Capitals are also just 1-2-0 away from home.

Alex Tuch has made his opportunities count, scoring seven goals on 27 shots through 10 games. He shares Washington's points lead with Dylan Strome, who has three goals and six assists. Ryan Leonard has chipped in four goals, including two on the power play. Washington has scored 34 goals in its first 10 games, but has also given up 32. Logan Thompson is on the injury list, which leaves Charlie Lindgren as an important option in net. Lindgren has two wins, a 2.98 goals-against average and a .886 save percentage.

Injuries: Logan Thompson, Vincent Desharnais, Rasmus Sandin and Patrick Thomas are out.

Nashville Predators Looking for Better Results at Home

Nashville has been difficult to figure out lately. The Predators scored six goals against Colorado on Sunday, winning 6-2, but couldn't finish off the Islanders two days later. New York won 4-3 in a shootout Tuesday, leaving Nashville with just two victories in its last five games. The Predators also suffered a 6-0 defeat at Boston before losing 3-2 in overtime to Pittsburgh. They've scored at least three goals in three of their last five appearances, but stopping opponents has sometimes been a problem.

Steven Stamkos has seven goals and eight assists through 12 games, including three goals on the power play. Ryan O'Reilly has also scored seven times, while Roman Josi leads Nashville with 11 assists. The Predators have converted 31.7% of their power plays, which could matter against Washington's penalty kill. Juuse Saros has started nine games, recording three wins and a .906 save percentage. His 2.81 goals-against average is considerably better than Justus Annunen's 4.00. Nashville will need dependable goaltending against a Washington team capable of scoring in bunches.

Injuries: No injuries listed.

Key To The Game

The schedule favors Nashville, which has Wednesday off while Washington plays Philadelphia at home. The Capitals also have to travel afterward, leaving less recovery time before Thursday's opening faceoff. Nashville's power play could become particularly important. The Predators have scored 13 times with the man advantage, compared with Washington's five power-play goals. The Capitals have killed 81.3% of penalties, so staying disciplined will matter. Washington has the stronger scoring average, but Nashville has the fresher team heading into the matchup.

Washington Capitals vs Nashville Predators Game Pick

  • Nashville Predators

I'm giving Nashville the advantage largely because of Washington's schedule. The Capitals have some dangerous scorers, particularly Tuch, but Thursday will be their second game in two nights. Nashville has been inconsistent, although Sunday's six-goal performance against Colorado showed what its offense can produce. Stamkos and O'Reilly give the Predators two reliable scoring threats, and their power play has been much better than Washington's. The Capitals could still make this competitive, but the extra rest and home ice make Nashville my choice.

Washington Capitals vs Nashville Predators Over/Under Pick

  • Over

Washington's last four games have produced combined totals of seven, seven, six and nine goals. Nashville has also been involved in some high-scoring contests, including Tuesday's shootout loss to New York and Sunday's 6-2 win over Colorado. Both teams have forwards capable of doing damage, and Nashville's power play adds another scoring opportunity. Washington's back-to-back schedule could also put extra pressure on its defense and goaltending. I expect chances at both ends, with Nashville having the better opportunity to take advantage. Over is the play.
