Phillies To Clinch Top Of Division

The Phillies are coming off a win on Monday versus the Brewers with a final score of 10-8. This is the fourth win for the Phillies in their last five games. Philadelphia holds a strong lead in the NL East with its winning percentage of .580, with only the Mets trailing behind with a winning percentage of .536.

Philadelphia looks to have clinched the top of their division with only a few more wins keeping them from resting their starters. The Phillies this season have found a great balance at both the plate and the mound. At the plate, the Phillies are ranking tenth overall in runs and third in batting average at .258. At the mound, the Phillies are seventh overall in ERA at 3.83, ninth in home runs, and second overall in walks allowed. This combo has let them stand out in their division and has secured them a spot in the playoffs.

Left-handed pitcher Ranger Suarez will be starting for the Phillies on Thursday.

Ranger Suarez:

  • has a record of 10-6 with an ERA of 3.02 and 124 strikeouts in 21 appearances this season.
  • has a record of 0-1 with an ERA of 3.04 and 21 strikeouts in 5 appearances versus the Brewers in his career.

Brewers Focusing On Playoffs

The Brewers picked up a loss on Monday versus the Phillies with a final score of 10-8. This loss would be the first of a short three-game home stand before heading back on the road on Friday. Milwaukee has nearly clinched its spot at the top of the NL Central and is only a couple of wins away from pulling their starters as well.

Much like the Phillies, we have seen great consistency from both the offense and the defense from the Brewers this season. At the plate, the Brewers are second in runs and batting average at .259. While their slugging percentage is not the highest at .409 (12th), they have made up for it with their consistent hitting and their ability to get on base with their .333 on base percentage (2nd). Coupled with their hitting is an equally good mound ranking third overall in ERA at 3.65 and eighth in home runs allowed. Milwaukee is showing a lot of promise on both aspects of the field and looks to be a strong contender going into the playoffs this season.

Right-handed pitcher Freddy Peralta will be starting for the Brewers on Thursday.

Freddy Peralta:

  • has a record of 16-5 with an ERA of 2.58 and 168 strikeouts in 28 appearances this season.
  • has a record of 0-2 with an ERA of 3.64 and 45 strikeouts in 7 appearances against the Phillies in his career.

Brewers Money Line (-122) (4 units)

The Brewers have a record of 23-14 as favorites against the National League at home this season. The Phillies have a 1-4 record in their last 5 games versus the Brewers. Both teams are motivated to grab a win as they look to clinch the top of their division. However, the Brewers have looked like a much stronger team all around and have dominated the Phillies in their recent outings despite their game one loss. I am expecting the Brewers to come back and win this series so I have to look towards them in this matchup.

I am taking the Brewers on the money line.

Over 7.5 (-120) (3 units)

The Brewers have an over/under record of 9-4 against the NL East at home this season. This is going to be a back-and-forth game as both teams fight hard to grab a much-needed win in their eyes. We should expect to see a similar game to the one we saw in game one, which easily went over this total. The Brewers are hitting .337 in their last 10 games against left-handed pitchers at home. The Brewers alone should be able to take us over the total and for that reason, I am taking the over.

I am siding with the over at 7.5.
