Pittsburgh Pirates vs Baltimore Orioles Pick and Prediction September 10th, 2025

By: Seamus Cole Published 09/10/2025, 10:11 AM ET

Two teams with little to play for will go head-to-head when the Orioles take on the Pirates on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. EST in Camden Yards. Check out our Pittsburgh Pirates vs Baltimore Orioles pick and prediction here!

Pittsburgh is the worst team in the NL Central with a 64-81 record and they have lost four in a row heading into this contest. They are hoping that 2026 and beyond can be seen as better days for this organization. Meanwhile, the Orioles are at the bottom of the AL East with a 67-77 record. Despite their disappointing campaign in 2025, they have won seven of their last ten heading into this contest. Pittsburgh is favored at a -165 money line while the total is set at 7.5 runs. Can the Orioles come up with a home upset?

Pittsburgh Praying For Better Days

The Pirates lost a close battle by a score of 3-2 in eleven innings on Tuesday. Tommy Pham had a solo shot in the game while Andrew McCutchen added the only other RBI on the squad. Mike Burrows had an average start. While he gave up only one earned run on two hits while striking out six, he only went four innings. The bullpen held strong until the end when Baltimore capitalized on Pittsburgh's inability to score in extras.

Pittsburgh was busy during July, albeit with several minor moves. Early on in the month, Pittsburgh traded Hunter Stratton for Titus Dumitru and cash. They later traded Adam Frazier for Cam Devanney and then sent Ke'Bryan Hayes to the Reds for a package of Taylor Rogers, Sammy Stafura, and cash. They weren't done, though, with David Bednar shipped to the Yankees for Rafael Flores, Edgleen Perez, and Brian Sanchez along with Bailey Falter sent to Kansas City for Evan Sisk and Callan Moses. This points to a clear emphasis on rebuilding, hoping to get at least a year or two of potential playoff contention with Skenes before he gets a long-term deal or leaves in free agency.

Paul Skenes will be on the mound for the Pirates in this one. Unless you have lived under a rock, Skenes has arguably been the best pitcher in the league since he has arrived with back-to-back All-Star starts and impressive numbers to match. He has "struggled" however, with a 2.67 ERA across his last five games, giving up 4+ runs in two of his last three outings. Simply put, if there is one person you want on the mound to stop their struggles, it's this man.

Baltimore Still at the Bottom

Baltimore earned a walk-off win in the 11th inning with the final score at 3-2. Jeremiah Jackson had a solo homer while Ryan Mountcastle and Samuel Basallo chipped in an RBI each. Jackson Holliday had a pair of hits and also had a walk to lead the team. Kyle Bradish was phenomenal with only one run surrendered in seven innings pitched, striking out six and walking two while giving up only four hits.

With the disappointing campaign that is Baltimore’s 2025, pieces had to be sold off at the deadline. They started off by acquiring Alex Jackson from the Yankees for a PTBNL and sending Bryan Baker to the Rays for a draft pick. Then it got spicy. Gregory Soto was sent to the Mets for Wellington Aracena and Cameron Foster. Seranthony Dominguez was sent to the Blue Jays with cash for Justin Watts-Brown. Then came the big trades. Ryan O’Hearn and Ramon Laureano were sent with cash to the Padres for Boston Bateman, Tyson Neighbors, Tanner Smith, Brandon Butterworth, Cobb Hightower, and Victor Figueroa. Andrew Kittredge was traded to the Cubs for Wilfri De La Cruz and Ramon Urias was sent to the Astros for Twine Palmer. Finally, Charlie Morton was traded to the Tigers for Micah Ashman and Cedric Mullins was sent to the Mets for Raimon Gomez, Anthony Nunez, and Chandler Marsh. It was a busy month for Baltimore, but it was a productive one. Whether these moves will constitute a rebuild or a reload remains to be seen, but Baltimore could be an interesting team to watch in the offseason.

Tyler Wells will take the hill as Baltimore's starter in this one. So far on the year, he has made only one start. Throughout his career, the righty has a 4.05 ERA with a record just under .500 and a WHIP of 1.04. He has 96 total appearances (46 starts) and has thrown nearly 300 innings. In his first start back against the Padres, Wells threw five innings and gave up only two runs on two hits while striking out four and walking none.

Pirates vs Orioles Pick

Spread Pick for Pirates vs Orioles Pick

  • Pittsburgh Pirates Money Line (4 units)

I get that the Pirates are terrible on the road and they have lost four in a row, but Paul Skenes is still on the mound for the Pirates. Whether or not that guarantees a win is up to the interpreter. Baltimore is under .500 at home this season and aside from his start on August 12th, Skenes has surrendered only three runs in his last four starts. I trust he can outduel Wells and the offense can do just enough to get back in the win column.

Over/Under Pick for Pirates vs Orioles

  • Under 7.5 (4 units)

Considering these two teams combined for only five runs in eleven innings, I'm more tempted to take the under. Paul Skenes will be his usual dominant self and refuse to give up more than two runs through around six innings. The Pirates are terrible on offense with an average of 3.61 runs per game this season. Pittsburgh is 81-59 on the under this season and Baltimore has had their offensive struggles this season. Wells threw the ball well against San Diego, so he should be able to do well enough against Baltimore.
