Washington State comes into this game as a slight 1-point favorite with a total of 45.
San Diego State Has a Good Start
San Diego State was only 3-9 last season and while only facing an FCS team, their turnaround started in a good fashion in a 42-0 home win over Stony Brook in their season opener. They crushed the Seawolves on both sides of the ball, outgaining them 464 yards to 95 yards and had solid balance in the run and pass game. Jayden Denegal was 13/25 for 207 yards with a TD and no INT, Lucky Sutton rushed for 100 yards and two TD and four Aztecs had at least 44 receiving yards. SDSU covered as a 19.5-point favorite and the total went Under.
- Denegal was solid in his first game and this may be his first test after being the backup QB at Michigan in the last three seasons.
- Sutton is back after a backup for his first three seasons with the Aztecs and he and Christian Washington, who rushed for over 500 yards last season with Coastal Carolina, hope give the team a legit 1-2 attack.
- While the top three WRs are back for the Aztecs none had over 700 receiving yards.
- The defense killed in their first game, but on the road facing a team from a major conference will be another big test for the program.

Washington State Gets First win in Rogers Era
In their season opener, Washington State was not overly impressive but got a 13-10 win over Idaho for Jimmy Rogers' first win as the new head coach. The Cougars were outgained 221 yards to 211 yards, and they only had three rushing yards while giving up 188. Jaxon Potter was 23/30 for 208 yards and a TD and no INT, Tony Freeman and Jeremiah Noga combined for 118 receiving yards, and Kirby Vorhees led the way with only 19 rushing yards. The Cougars failed to cover as a 17-point favorite and the total went Under.
- Rogers is in his first season in FBS ball after being at South Dakota State, where he brought a slew of players with him.
- WSU has over 60 new players for a revamped roster.
- Potter won the starting QB job and while he started in the last game and was decent, he was benched for a while.
- Vorhees was one of the players who came from South Dakota State after rushing for nearly 600 yards last season, but the first game showed WSU has issues in the run game.
- The Cougars did play good defense in their season opener only allowing 10 points but they did not have any sacks.
San Diego State vs. Washington State Pick
Spread Pick for San Diego State vs. Washington State
- Washington State -1 (4 Units)
San Diego State cruised in their opener, facing an FCS team while Washington State was less than impressive in their opener in a 3-point win over Idaho, where they were a 17-point favorite. The Aztecs come into this game confident after their last win and not sure about a WSU team with a new head coach and over 60 new players from last season. In terms of the San Diego State vs. Washington State prediction, the Cougars did play good run D in their opener and they have had another week to gel and will come through and like last week, will win a close one, but unlike like last week, they will cover.
Over/Under Pick for San Diego State vs. Washington State
- Under 45 (+4 Units)
Both of these teams’ games went under in their season openers and that is the pick I am leaning towards in this game. Washington State only scored 13 points in their last game, but only gave up 10 points. Their offense has a ton of new players but their defense has some key returning ones. On the other side of the coin, SDSU pitched a shutout in their last game, but it was facing an FCS team. Still, their D will be pretty good in this game, facing a WSU offense that has issues. This non-conference affair will be a low-scoring one, so the Under is the pick.
