Mariners Look for Three in a Row with Miller on the Hill
Bryce Miller (4-5 5.71 ERA 1.41 WHIP) goes for the Mariners and they have won his last two starts.
- In Miller’s last start, he gave up two runs on only two hits in six innings in a 4-2 win over the Cleveland Indians.
- In his previous start, he gave up four runs in a win and in the two starts before that, the M’s lost, where he gave up a total of nine runs in 10 innings of work.
- He has had issues with the long ball, giving up seven home runs in his last four outings.
- This is Miller’s first start facing the Braves this season.
Seattle lost Game 1 of this series 4-1 and has lost four in a row and six of their last seven games. They are still in the AL West race in second place, 3.5 games out of first place and they have the third AL Wild Card, a half a game clear of the Texas Rangers. On the season, the club ranks 12th in the Majors in runs scored and 17th in team ERA. MVP candidate Cal Raleigh (.242 51 HR 109 RBI) leads the Majors in HR and ranks third in RBI but has only gone yard once in the last nine games where he has two RBI.

Waldrep looks to Keep it Up for the Braves
While the Braves have been one of the bigger disappointments this season Hurston Waldrep (4-0 1.01 ERA 1.01 WHIP) has been one of the bright spots.
- In Waldrep’s last start, he only gave up one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings in a 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.
- The Braves have won all six of his starts since being called up from the minors in early July.
- He has not given up more than one run in any of his six starts.
- He struck out a season high nine batters in his last start and has at least seven K’s in three of his last four outings.
The Braves have been hit hard by injuries this season and are well under .500 and they have the third fewest wins in the NL. They rank in the middle of the pack in terms of runs scored and only rank 22nd in team ERA. Matt Olson (.268, 21 HR, 71 RBI) leads the club in batting average, HR, and RBI and has not gone yard in the last seven games, where he only has three RBI. On the season, the Braves are 33-33 at home.
Mariners vs. Braves Pick
Spread Pick for Mariners vs. Braves
- Braves -135 (+4 Units)
The Mariners are slumping at the wrong time, as they are trying to hold onto a Wild Card spot. Their pitching has struggled as of late and while Miller was pretty good in his last outing, he had given up at least four runs in his previous three starts. While the Braves have been a big disappointment this season, Waldrep has been great since being called up by the big club. Atlanta has won all six of its starts where he did not give up more than one run any of them. In terms of the Seattle Mariners vs. Atlanta Braves prediction, Waldrep will pitch well again and get some run support, as the Braves will take Game 2 and send the Mariners to their fifth loss in a row.
Over/Under Pick for Mariners vs. Braves
- Under 9 runs (+4 Units)
Game 1 of this series went Under and that is the pick I am leaning towards in this game. Waldrep has been great since coming from the minors and in six starts, he has not given up more than one run in any of them. He will have another strong outing facing a Seattle team that only scored one run in the series opener. Miller was pretty good in his last start, but gave up at least four runs in the three starts before that. The Braves will get him for some runs but not many. This game will be similar to Game 1 in a lower-scoring affair, so the Under is the pick.
