Coventry Still Searching for Its First Goal

Coventry's return to the Premier League has produced a difficult opening stretch. The Sky Blues began with a 3-0 defeat at Arsenal before losing 1-0 at home against Hull City. Coventry then traveled to Manchester City and suffered another 1-0 defeat.

That leaves Coventry at 0-0-3 with zero goals scored and five conceded. The results haven't been encouraging, but the defensive performances have improved considerably since the opener. Coventry has allowed only one goal in each of its last two league matches, including a respectable 1-0 defeat against Manchester City.

The major problem remains at the other end. Coventry has gone 270 minutes without scoring a Premier League goal. A 4-2 League Cup victory over Plymouth demonstrated that the attack can produce against lower-level opposition, but that success hasn't carried into league competition.

Brighton Has Shown Considerable Attacking Potential

Brighton enters at 1-1-1 after opening its Premier League season with an impressive 4-0 home victory over Aston Villa. The Seagulls then played a wild seven-goal match at Chelsea, eventually losing 4-3, before settling for a 1-1 home draw against Leeds.

That gives Brighton eight goals through its first three league matches. The Seagulls have already scored at least three goals twice and have yet to be shut out in Premier League competition.

Brighton's broader competitive form has also been solid. The club advanced through its European qualifying tie without conceding and produced four goals in the home leg. There is clearly more attacking upside on the Brighton side of Sunday's matchup.

Coventry City vs Brighton & Hove Albion Picks and Prediction

Pick: Brighton Moneyline (-125)

At approximately -125, Brighton is reasonably priced considering the difference in offensive production. Coventry has yet to score in three Premier League games, while Brighton has already produced eight goals. The Sky Blues deserve credit for holding Manchester City to one goal, and playing at home could keep this competitive, but eventually Coventry has to demonstrate that it can create enough offense to win at this level. Brighton doesn't need a dominant performance to cash the ticket. Take Brighton on the moneyline at -125.

Pick: Under 3.5 Goals

Rather than relying on Coventry to suddenly become an offensive contributor, the higher total provides the better angle. All three Coventry league matches have finished below 3.5 goals, with the Sky Blues losing 3-0, 1-0 and 1-0. Brighton can certainly score multiple times, but Coventry has conceded only twice over its last two league games. A 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 Brighton victory all fit the matchup. Take Under 3.5 goals.

Final Picks: Brighton Moneyline (-125) and Under 3.5 Goals
