Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins Prediction and Picks - September 8, 2025

The Nationals are heading to LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida for their series against the Marlins; keep reading for our Nationals versus Marlins Prediction. The Nationals are last in the NL East with a record of 58-84. Miami is third in the NL East with a record of 66-77. The Marlins have a 5-4 record against the Nationals this season. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. EDT. When it comes to MLB picks, our MLB Predictions are stellar.

Nationals Finding Success At Mound

The Nationals are coming off a win on Sunday versus the Cubs on Sunday with a final score of 6-3. This would win the Nationals the series 2-1 as they picked up their fifth win in their last six games. Washington is out of the playoff race, but have been finding success recently as they look to close their season on a high note.

Washington this season ranked second-to-last in ERA at 5.28 and was 25th in home runs and 24th in walks. However, in their recent games, the Nationals have been able to generate wins thanks to their quality of pitching. The Nationals have an ERA of 3.23 in their last six games and are averaging 8.66 strikeouts per game and a WHIP of 1.23. The Nationals will be looking to carry their momentum at the mound for the remainder of the season.

Right-handed pitcher Cade Cavalli will be starting for the Nationals on Monday.

Cade Cavalli:

  • is 2-1 with an ERA of 4.85 and 28 strikeouts in 6 appearances this season.
  • has allowed 2 runs on 4 hits with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts in 5 innings against the Marlins in his career.

Marlins Mound Causing Issues

The Marlins picked up a win on Sunday versus the Phillies with a final score of 5-4. This win would break up a five-game losing streak the Marlins had amassed in games prior. Miami is currently on a lengthy home stand, which kicked off on a sour note with a 1-2 series loss to the Phillies.

Miami has multiple opportunities for a wild card position this season but ultimately was unable to find the postseason this year. The Marlins attempted to win through their hitting but were unable to consistently bring home runners. The Marlins were 13th overall in batting average at .250; however were 21st overall in RBIs, leaving runners constantly stranded in their games. Miami would fail to reach the postseason mostly due to their pitching which ranks 26th overall in ERA at 4.72 and has only gotten worse in recent games.

Right-handed pitcher Janson Junk will be taking the mound for the Marlins on Monday.

Janson Junk:

  • has a record of 6-2 with an ERA of 4.09, 61 strikeouts and 1 save in 17 appearances this season.
  • has not allowed any runs on 2 hits with 4 strikeouts in 5.2 innings versus the Nationals in his career.

Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins Prediction and Picks

Money Line Pick for Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins

  • Marlins Money Line (-134 ) (3 units)

The Marlins are 3-1 in their last four games against the Nationals at home. The Nationals have a 2-6 record as underdogs in their last eight games on the road. Washington has managed to generate more offense as of late but they may find it difficult going up against Janson Junk like they already have in their one game against him. If the Marlins are capable of slowing down this Nationals’ offense, then their consistent hitting should be able to bring enough runs in to grab the win.

Over/Under Pick for Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins

  • Under 8 (-110 ) (3 units)

The Marlins have an over/under record of 2-4-1 in their last seven games. The Nationals have an over/under record of 1-4 in their last five games against the Marlins. Janson Junk has proven to be a reliable pitcher for the Marlins, especially in his one game against the Nationals in his career which saw him allow no runs in his 5.2 innings pitched. The Marlins themselves do not do a great job bringing runners home and as a result will likely win this game on a lower-scoring affair thanks to their pitching.
