Golden State Valkyries vs Atlanta Dream WNBA Finals Game 6 Picks and Predictions for Thursday, October 29, 2026

By: David Anicetti Published 10/29/2026, 01:06 PM ET

Golden State can win its first WNBA championship Thursday, just two seasons after joining the league. The Valkyries lead Atlanta 3-2 following Monday's 64-55 victory in Game 5. The Dream now have to win at home to send the Finals back to San Francisco for Game 7 on Saturday. Thursday's game is at State Farm Arena, with an unusual 12:30 pm ET tipoff to accommodate an NBA game later that evening. USA Network and Peacock have the coverage. Atlanta is favored by 4.5 points, with the total at 147.5. Check our free WNBA picks for more basketball coverage.

Golden State Valkyries Have Taken Control Defensively

What happened to the Atlanta offense that scored 97 points in Game 3? Golden State has made it almost unrecognizable over the past two meetings. The Valkyries won 67-62 in Atlanta on Saturday before taking Game 5 by a 64-55 score Monday. That latest result wasn't pretty offensively, but Golden State didn't need many baskets. Atlanta shot just 29.2% and gave the ball away 17 times. Those turnovers produced 21 points for the Valkyries, who also held the Dream to only 18 points in the paint.

Kiah Stokes has been particularly impressive. The veteran center scored 13 points Monday and hit three 3-pointers, an unexpected bonus from someone known mainly for defense. Stokes is averaging 10 rebounds and 2.6 blocks during the playoffs. Gabby Williams has supplied 19.7 points per game, with Tiffany Hayes contributing another 12.4. Golden State hasn't shot particularly well itself, making 38.8% of its postseason attempts. The difference lately has been how much trouble the Valkyries are causing Atlanta at the other end.

Injuries: Iliana Rupert is out.

Atlanta Dream Need to Get Reese Involved

There was a very different feeling around Atlanta after Game 3. The Dream had just beaten Golden State 97-71, taking a 2-1 series lead after also winning Game 2. Now they're facing elimination, having scored only 117 points across their last two times out. Monday was especially frustrating. Golden State scored just 64, yet Atlanta still finished nine points behind. The Dream have already shown they can beat this opponent, including a convincing home victory, but finding good shots has suddenly become a difficult job.

Angel Reese scored 51 points across Games 2 and 3. Since then, Stokes has been a major obstacle, with Reese managing just seven points Monday. She's still averaging 17 points and 10.6 rebounds this postseason. Rhyne Howard has produced 16.8 points per game but is shooting 33.8%. Jordin Canada has 14.9 points and 7.8 assists, while Allisha Gray has contributed 13.9 points. Atlanta has enough scoring options on paper. The question is whether those players can find the basket against a defense that's made their last two games miserable.

Injuries: Brionna Jones and Matilde Villa are out.

Key To The Game

Atlanta's biggest problem is Stokes, and the numbers explain why. Dream players have made only nine of 48 shots contested by her during the series. That's a difficult number to overcome when Reese does so much of her work near the basket. Canada needs to get Atlanta moving the ball rather than allowing Golden State to settle into its defensive positions. The Valkyries have already won Game 4 at State Farm Arena, so Thursday's venue isn't unfamiliar. Atlanta's shooting, particularly inside, will decide plenty.

Golden State Valkyries vs Atlanta Dream Game Pick

  • Golden State Valkyries +4.5

Atlanta might force Game 7, but giving Golden State 4.5 points looks generous after the last two games. The Valkyries have already won three times in this series, including Saturday's victory in Atlanta. Stokes has made scoring difficult for Reese, and Golden State hasn't needed much offense to win. Howard and Canada could certainly have better shooting nights, but expecting a complete reversal seems risky. I can see another tight finish, and Golden State has shown it can handle those. I'll take the Valkyries with the points.

Golden State Valkyries vs Atlanta Dream Over/Under Pick

  • Under 147.5

The last two Finals games haven't come close to this number. Saturday's meeting finished with 129 points, followed by only 119 on Monday. Golden State has stayed below 72 points in every game of the series, yet still leads 3-2. Atlanta's shooting problems have made the difference, especially around Stokes. The Dream should improve on Monday's 55 points, but another 97-point performance seems unlikely against this defense. I'm expecting a close game where baskets remain difficult to find. Under 147.5 is my play.
