Golden State Carries a Perfect Run into Indianapolis

Golden State enters Wednesday’s matchup with a 17-7 overall record and a 7-4 record away from home. The Valkyries have won each of their last five games, including four consecutive road victories. They recently won over Connecticut 79-64 after defeating Toronto 83-75, Washington 62-49, Atlanta 88-83, and New York 76-67. Golden State has therefore demonstrated the ability to win both lower-scoring contests and a more competitive offensive game during its current streak.

The Valkyries average 82.0 points per game while allowing only 76.2 points. They shoot 42% from the field and average 33.0 rebounds and 18.2 assists per contest. Golden State also produces 4.3 blocks and 7.4 steals per game. The Valkyries enter with the lower offensive averages in this matchup, but they possess the stronger scoring defense by a considerable margin.

Golden State’s defense is its most important strength entering this road assignment. The Valkyries have held four of their last five opponents below 76 points, including defensive performances in which they allowed 64, 75, 49, and 67 points. Atlanta’s 83 points represent the only occasion during the five-game winning streak when an opponent surpassed the 75-point mark. That defensive consistency could be critical against an Indiana offense averaging 94.0 points per game and shooting 47% from the field.

Indiana Brings an Explosive Offense Back Home

Indiana enters this contest with a 14-9 overall record and an 8-4 home record. The Fever have won four of their last five games and are currently on a two-game winning streak. They recently won over Las Vegas 109-75 after defeating Phoenix 92-89. Indiana also earned an 84-68 victory over Las Vegas and a 111-87 home win over Los Angeles during this stretch. Its only recent defeat was a 106-92 road loss to Los Angeles.

The Fever average 94.0 points per game, the highest offensive figure provided for either team, while allowing 89.0 points. Indiana shoots 47% from the field and averages 34.6 rebounds and 20.6 assists per game. The Fever also average 3.9 blocks and 6.2 steals. They hold advantages over Golden State in scoring, field-goal percentage, rebounding, and assists, although the Valkyries have the better numbers in points allowed, blocks, and steals.

Indiana’s biggest strength is its ability to produce points consistently. The Fever have scored at least 92 points in four of their last five games, reaching 109 points in their most recent victory and 111 in their previous home appearance. They also scored 92 in consecutive road games against Phoenix and Los Angeles. However, Golden State presents a different defensive challenge after allowing only 76.2 points per game and limiting four of its last five opponents to 75 points or fewer.

Golden State Valkyries vs Indiana Fever Picks and Prediction

Golden State Valkyries vs Indiana Fever Pick

  • Pick: Indiana Fever -1.5

Indiana is the selection to cover the short 1.5-point spread at home. Golden State owns the better overall record and enters on a five-game winning streak, but the Fever hold clear offensive advantages. Indiana averages 12.0 more points per game, shoots five percentage points better from the field, and owns higher averages in rebounds and assists. The Fever are also 8-4 at home and have won four of their last five games. With the spread requiring Indiana to win by only two points, the home favorite is the pick.

Golden State Valkyries vs Indiana Fever Total Pick

  • Pick: Under 168.5

I am taking the under 168.5 because of Golden State’s defensive performance and recent game totals. Four of the Valkyries’ last five contests finished below this number, producing combined totals of 143, 158, 111, and 143 points. The only exception was the 88-83 victory over Atlanta, which reached 171. Golden State has held four of its last five opponents to 75 points or fewer, and its season average of 76.2 points allowed gives the Valkyries a chance to slow Indiana’s productive offense. Indiana should still score enough to win, but I expect Golden State’s defense to keep the combined score under the posted total.

Final Score Prediction: Indiana Fever 86 – Golden State Valkyries 80
