Fever Bring One of the WNBA's Best Offenses to Chicago

Indiana enters Saturday at 19-12 overall and is 3-2 over its last five games. The Fever are coming off an 86-84 overtime loss against Las Vegas and also lost 108-100 at Minnesota. Before those defeats, Indiana had won three straight, beating Portland 112-98, Seattle 105-95 and Connecticut 123-88. The Fever have scored at least 100 points in four of their last five games.

Indiana is averaging an impressive 96.1 points per game while allowing 90.5 points. The Fever are shooting 48% from the field while averaging 33.6 rebounds and 20.7 assists. Defensively, Indiana averages 3.9 blocks and 6.7 steals per game. The 96.1-point scoring average gives the Fever a significant offensive advantage over Chicago's 88.3 points per game.

The biggest strength for Indiana is its ability to consistently generate offense. The Fever have a positive scoring differential of 5.6 points per game and have shown during their recent stretch that they can push games into triple digits. Chicago allows 89.9 points per game, creating a favorable opportunity for Indiana to continue producing at a high level.

Sky Look to Continue Their Improved Recent Play

Chicago enters Saturday at 12-19 overall and 8-8 at home. The Sky are 3-2 over their last five games after beating Los Angeles 95-88 in their most recent contest. Chicago also owns recent victories over Las Vegas, 84-83, and Connecticut, 94-88. The two losses came against Phoenix, 106-101, and New York, 95-94, meaning four of Chicago's last five games have been decided by seven points or fewer.

The Sky are averaging 88.3 points per game while allowing 89.9 points. Chicago is shooting 45% from the field and averages 32.9 rebounds and 21.6 assists. Defensively, the Sky average 4.8 blocks and 7.0 steals per game. Chicago has the advantage over Indiana in assists, blocks and steals, but the Fever hold the stronger numbers in scoring, field-goal percentage and rebounding.

Chicago's recent competitiveness makes this more interesting than the overall records initially suggest. The Sky have beaten Las Vegas during their current five-game stretch and nearly defeated New York, but Indiana presents a major offensive challenge. Chicago will need to improve on its season defensive average because allowing around 90 points may not be enough against a Fever team averaging more than 96.

Indiana Fever vs Chicago Sky Picks and Prediction

  • ATS Pick: Indiana Fever

I'm taking Indiana against the spread. The Fever own the considerably better overall record and have a substantial offensive advantage, averaging 96.1 points compared with Chicago's 88.3. Indiana also shoots 48% from the field compared with 45% for the Sky.

Chicago has been competitive recently, which keeps me from wanting to lay an excessive number. However, Indiana has scored at least 100 points in four of its last five games and has a positive scoring differential for the season, while Chicago has been outscored on average. I would back the Fever at a reasonable single-digit spread.

  • Total Pick: Over 184.5

I'm taking the Over if the total is set around 184.5. Indiana's last five games have produced combined scores of 170, 208, 210, 200 and 211 points. Chicago has also played several high-scoring games recently, including totals of 183 against Los Angeles, 207 against Phoenix and 189 against New York.

The season numbers support the possibility of another high-scoring game. Indiana averages 96.1 points while allowing 90.5, and Chicago averages 88.3 while surrendering 89.9. With Indiana's offense producing at an especially high level recently, I expect the Fever to dictate the scoring environment and give the Over a strong chance.
