Las Vegas Brings an Elite Offense to Brooklyn

Las Vegas enters Sunday's matchup riding a two-game winning streak and has won four of its last five games. The Aces defeated Indiana 86-84 in overtime and Atlanta 109-87 after suffering an 84-83 loss at Chicago. Las Vegas also defeated New York 104-99 and Portland 98-83 during this five-game stretch. The Aces have been particularly effective away from home this season, where their 13-4 road record gives them an important advantage entering this matchup.

The season statistics demonstrate why Las Vegas has been so difficult to contain. The Aces average 91.8 points per game while allowing 86.5 points per game, creating an average scoring differential of 5.3 points. Las Vegas shoots 49% from the field and averages 34.1 rebounds, 22.6 assists, 7.0 steals and 5.1 blocks per game.

Offensive efficiency is the biggest strength for Las Vegas. The Aces combine one of the better scoring averages with a 49% shooting percentage, meaning opponents cannot simply depend on Las Vegas going cold. The Aces also average more assists than New York, and their ability to create quality shots has helped them win 22 of their first 31 games.

New York Looks to Extend Its Winning Streak

New York comes into this game on a three-game winning streak and has also won four of its last five games. The Liberty defeated Seattle 92-86 and 95-83 in consecutive games after earning a 94-92 road victory over Phoenix. Their only loss during the five-game stretch came at Las Vegas, where the Aces earned a 104-99 victory. New York's other win was a 113-109 road victory against Los Angeles.

The Liberty average 90.1 points per game while surrendering 87.5 points per game. New York is shooting 46% from the field while averaging 34.7 rebounds, 20.8 assists, 6.0 steals and 4.2 blocks per game. The Liberty therefore trail Las Vegas in scoring, field-goal percentage, assists, steals and blocks, although New York holds a small rebounding advantage.

Home court gives New York its strongest statistical argument. The Liberty are 10-5 at Barclays Center, compared with a 9-8 record away from home. New York has also scored at least 92 points in each of its last five games. However, Las Vegas has already demonstrated that it can handle this matchup, defeating New York 104-99 on July 30 after the Liberty won the first meeting 87-76.

Las Vegas Aces vs New York Liberty Picks and Prediction

  • Pick: Las Vegas Aces Moneyline

The Las Vegas Aces are the pick to win Sunday's game.

These are two high-level offensive teams, but the season numbers favor Las Vegas in several important categories. The Aces score 91.8 points per game compared with New York's 90.1 and allow 86.5 compared with the Liberty's 87.5. Las Vegas also owns the better field-goal percentage and produces more assists, steals and blocks per game.

The road record is another major factor. Las Vegas has gone 13-4 away from home, so playing at Barclays Center should not be enough by itself to move the pick toward New York. The Aces also won the most recent meeting 104-99 and enter Sunday having won four of five.

Take the Las Vegas Aces to win.

  • Pick: Over 180.5

The over is the preferred total if the number is set at 180.5.

Las Vegas and New York rank as two productive offensive teams, averaging a combined 181.9 points per game this season. Their recent scoring has been even more impressive. New York has reached at least 92 points in five consecutive games, while Las Vegas has scored 98 or more in three of its last five.

Their July 30 meeting produced 203 combined points in Las Vegas' 104-99 victory. While one previous result shouldn't determine Sunday's selection, it demonstrates the scoring potential when these offenses are functioning efficiently.

Las Vegas' 49% season shooting percentage is particularly attractive for an over, while New York has enough offensive production to keep pace at home. If sportsbooks place this game around 180.5, there should still be enough scoring upside to back the higher-scoring outcome.

Take the over if the total is set at 180.5.

Prediction: Las Vegas Aces 96, New York Liberty 91
