The Washington Mystics visit the Atlanta Dream at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sunday, September 27, 2026, for Game 1 of their first-round WNBA playoff series. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET with coverage on Prime Video. Washington finished the regular season 28-16 overall and 13-9 on the road, while Atlanta went 30-14 overall and 15-7 at home. The Dream finished first in the Eastern Conference, two games ahead of Washington, and enter the postseason riding a five-game winning streak. The Mystics have won four consecutive games of their own. Atlanta is currently a 7.5-point favorite after opening at -6.5, while the total has moved from 163.5 to 164.5. Mystics Enter the Playoffs Playing Their Best Basketball

Washington averaged 84.0 points per game during the regular season while shooting 45% from the field. The Mystics averaged 37.7 rebounds, 19.7 assists, 5.5 steals and 3.8 blocks per game. Their scoring numbers are considerably lower than Atlanta's, but Washington holds a meaningful advantage on the glass, averaging 2.1 more rebounds per game.

The Mystics enter Game 1 on a four-game winning streak and have been particularly productive offensively during that run. Washington closed the regular season with a 101-93 victory over Chicago after beating Connecticut 79-69, Indiana 93-77 and Chicago 110-80. The Mystics have therefore scored at least 93 points in three of their last four games, including two performances above 100.

Washington does enter the playoffs with a significant absence from its regular rotation. That creates additional concern against an Atlanta team that has been excellent at forcing turnovers and generating defensive activity. Washington's rebounding advantage becomes even more important in this matchup because the Mystics need to control possessions, limit second chances and prevent Atlanta from turning defensive pressure into easy transition offense.

Dream Carry a Five-Game Winning Streak Into Game 1

Atlanta finished the regular season 30-14 overall and 15-7 at State Farm Arena. The Dream averaged 91.3 points per game while shooting 44% from the field. Atlanta also produced 35.6 rebounds, 21.5 assists, 9.1 steals and 3.3 blocks per game. The Dream's 7.3-point scoring advantage over Washington stands out, while their 9.1 steals per game give them a major advantage in defensive disruption.

Few teams enter the postseason in better form. Atlanta won each of its final five games, defeating New York twice on the road by scores of 83-65 and 95-84 after home victories of 106-81 over Chicago and 103-59 over Connecticut. The Dream also defeated Minnesota 89-81. Atlanta has averaged 95.2 points over those five games while allowing only 74.0, producing an average winning margin of 21.2 points.

Atlanta's postseason rotation also has some availability concerns, so the Dream will not necessarily enter Game 1 at full strength. However, their recent defensive performance has been exceptional. Four of Atlanta's last five opponents failed to reach 85 points, and two were held below 70. Combined with the Dream's ability to force turnovers, that defensive pressure creates a difficult road matchup for Washington.

Washington Mystics vs Atlanta Dream Picks and Prediction

Pick: Washington Mystics +7.5

Atlanta is playing excellent basketball and deserves to be favored at home, but the move from an opening line of -6.5 to -7.5 creates enough value to take Washington with the points. The Mystics have won four consecutive games themselves, scoring 101, 79, 93 and 110 points during that stretch, and their 37.7 rebounds per game give them a clear advantage on the glass. Atlanta has been dominant recently and owns advantages in scoring, assists and steals, but Washington finished only two games behind the Dream in the standings and enters with considerable momentum of its own. Getting more than three possessions with a 28-win team in Game 1 makes Washington +7.5 the preferred side, even though Atlanta remains dangerous enough to win the game outright.

Pick: Over 164.5

The over gets the call at 164.5 because both offenses enter the postseason in excellent form. Atlanta averaged 95.2 points over its final five games, while Washington scored at least 93 points in three of its final four and reached triple digits twice. The Dream's recent defense has been outstanding, but Washington's current offensive production makes 164.5 attainable without requiring an extreme pace. The teams' full-season scoring averages combine for 175.3 points per game, providing more than ten points of cushion above the current total. Playoff basketball can produce a slower tempo, but the recent scoring trends and offensive efficiency create enough support for Over 164.5.

Final Picks: Washington Mystics +7.5 and Over 164.5
