WNBA Picks for October 1, 2026
The WNBA playoffs have reached elimination territory, and Thursday's schedule features one game with everything at stake. The Indiana Fever travel to Las Vegas to face the Aces in a winner-take-all Game 3 of their first-round series. Tipoff is scheduled for 9:00 PM ET at Michelob ULTRA Arena, with national television coverage on USA Network and CNBC.
Las Vegas enters Thursday as a home favorite after the first two games of the series produced dramatically different results. The Aces controlled Game 1 in Las Vegas, winning 102-85, before Indiana responded with a 99-89 victory at home Tuesday night to extend its season.
That leaves bettors with a deciding game in which the first two meetings have produced 187 and 188 combined points. The current market has Las Vegas favored by roughly 3.5 to 4 points, with the total sitting around 180.5 to 181.5 depending on the sportsbook.

Indiana Fever vs. Las Vegas Aces Best Bet
Thursday, October 1 — 9:00 PM ET
There is a natural temptation to react heavily to what happened Tuesday night. Indiana didn't simply survive Game 2; the Fever won by double digits after trailing 26-18 at the end of the first quarter. Indiana responded by outscoring Las Vegas 30-17 in the second quarter and carried a 48-43 advantage into halftime. The Fever eventually stretched the margin into double figures and finished with a 99-89 victory.
The result was almost the complete opposite of Game 1. Las Vegas won the opener 102-85 and carried a 62-47 advantage into halftime. The Aces were extremely efficient offensively in that victory and turned what had been a competitive opening portion of the game into a comfortable 17-point win.
Put the two games together, however, and an interesting betting picture develops. Las Vegas has outscored Indiana only 191-184 across the series despite winning Game 1 by 17 points. The teams have essentially traded dominant performances, and neither has demonstrated enough control over the entire series to make laying multiple possessions in an elimination game especially attractive.
Indiana also proved something important Tuesday: its offense can function against this Las Vegas defense when it takes better care of its opportunities. The Fever scored 99 points after being held to 85 in the opener, and their ability to recover after an eight-point first-quarter deficit was arguably as significant as the final score. Indiana didn't need to play from ahead for 40 minutes to stay competitive.
Las Vegas still owns the most obvious situational advantage. Game 3 returns to Michelob ULTRA Arena, where the Aces won the series opener by 17. Las Vegas finished the regular season 31-13 overall and 15-7 at home, compared with Indiana's 28-16 overall record and 13-9 road mark. The Aces also entered the postseason having won their final seven regular-season games.
That's enough to make Las Vegas understandable as the favorite. It isn't necessarily enough to make the Aces the better wager at the current spread.
Why Indiana +3.5 Makes the Cut
The difference between betting Indiana to win outright and taking the points matters in a deciding playoff game.
Indiana has already demonstrated that it can beat Las Vegas in this matchup, while the Fever's 10-point Game 2 victory makes the 17-point Game 1 loss less concerning than it would be in isolation. We now have two playoff meetings producing completely different winners and a regular season in which Indiana and Las Vegas were both among the league's stronger offensive teams.
The Game 3 setting could also produce a much tighter fourth quarter than either of the first two games. Game 1 got away from Indiana before halftime, while the Fever established separation during the middle quarters of Game 2. In a winner-take-all situation, taking more than one possession with the underdog provides useful protection if Thursday finally delivers the close finish this series has yet to produce.
The number is important. Indiana +3.5 is playable for this recommendation, while +4 would obviously be even better. If the market drops to +2.5 or below, much of the value created by having the extra possession disappears.
WNBA Best Bet: Indiana Fever +3.5
One More Betting Angle to Watch
Although Indiana against the spread is the official play, Thursday's total deserves attention.
Game 1 finished with 187 combined points and Game 2 reached 188. The current total around 180.5-181.5 therefore requires the deciding game to score roughly six or seven fewer points than either of the first two meetings.
That certainly can happen. Elimination games can produce more deliberate possessions, and both teams now have two playoff games of film from which to make defensive adjustments. However, bettors shouldn't automatically assume "Game 3 pressure" means an under. The actual evidence from this series has pointed in the opposite direction.
Las Vegas scored 102 in the opener, while Indiana answered with 99 in Game 2. At least one offense has approached or exceeded 100 points in both games, and the losing team has still scored at least 85.
For that reason, the over would be the secondary direction at 180.5 or better, but it doesn't quite surpass Indiana +3.5 as Thursday's official best bet. Once a total starts moving toward the 182-183 range, the value becomes considerably less attractive.
Thursday's WNBA Betting Verdict
Thursday gives us the type of matchup that should work particularly well for this Best Bets format. We aren't trying to manufacture multiple wagers simply because there is only one WNBA game on the schedule. Instead, the goal is to identify the strongest available position in the game.
Las Vegas has home-court advantage and deserves to be favored, but Indiana's Game 2 response showed why laying multiple possessions isn't automatic. The Fever have now scored 184 points over the first two games and have proven they can recover after the Aces controlled the opener.
Getting more than a possession in what could become a tight elimination game is enough to put Indiana on Thursday's betting card.
Best Bet: Indiana Fever +3.5
