Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina meet at BMO Field in Toronto, Canada, on Friday at 3:00 PM ET in a Group B match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Canada enters the tournament as a co-host nation and arrives in strong form with a WDDWW record across its last five matches. Bosnia and Herzegovina has also been playing well, posting a DWWDW record over its last five games after a surprising qualification run. Both teams view this opener as an important opportunity to gain early control in a competitive group that also includes Switzerland and Qatar. Cash in with our free World Cup picks.

Canada Preview

Canada enters the World Cup carrying high expectations after several strong international performances over the last two years. Jesse Marsch has quickly established a clear identity built around aggressive pressing, defensive discipline, and attacking quickly after winning possession. Canada has lost only once in its last 15 matches and has earned victories against quality opponents, including Colombia, Ecuador, Ukraine, and the United States.

The Canadian attack features several players capable of changing a match. Jonathan David remains one of the top scoring threats in Concacaf and will be expected to lead the front line. Cyle Larin provides additional scoring ability, while Stephen Eustáquio controls much of the midfield play. Ismaël Koné has developed into an important box-to-box midfielder and gives Canada another player capable of contributing on both ends of the pitch.

Defensively, Canada has taken major steps forward under Marsch. The team recorded nine clean sheets in a 13-match stretch before the final pre-tournament friendlies. The biggest concern entering the opener is the fitness of Alphonso Davies and central defender Moïse Bombito. Davies remains the captain and one of the most dangerous players in the squad, whether deployed at left back or in a more advanced role. Playing at home should provide an additional boost as Canada looks to secure three points in its opening match.

Injuries: Alphonso Davies (questionable), Moïse Bombito (fitness concern).

Bosnia and Herzegovina Preview

Bosnia and Herzegovina arrives at the World Cup after one of the most surprising qualification campaigns in Europe. Sergej Barbarez took over a struggling program in 2024 and transformed the mentality of the squad. Bosnia advanced through the playoffs with victories over Wales and Italy, securing only the second World Cup appearance in the nation's history.

The team's success is built on aggressive defending, direct attacking play, and quick transitions. Bosnia does not rely on lengthy possession sequences and instead looks to move forward quickly when opportunities develop. Young players such as Kerim Alajbegovic, Esmir Bajraktarevic, Tarik Muharemovic, and Amar Dedic have injected energy into the squad while helping create a stronger foundation for the future.

Veteran striker Edin Dzeko remains the centerpiece of the attack even at 40 years old. Bosnia continues to look toward its longtime captain in key moments, and Dzeko delivered several important goals during qualification. The squad may not possess the overall depth of some teams in the tournament, but Bosnia has shown toughness and confidence throughout the last year. A positive result against Canada would immediately strengthen its chances of advancing from Group B.

Injuries: No major injuries reported.

Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina Pick

  • Canada -120

Canada has several advantages entering this matchup. The co-hosts are playing at home, have been more consistent over the past two years, and possess greater depth throughout the roster. Marsch has built a team that defends well, presses aggressively, and creates opportunities through quick transitions. Canada has also produced strong results against higher-level competition than Bosnia has faced recently.

Bosnia deserves respect after its playoff victories over Wales and Italy, but Canada appears better equipped over 90 minutes. The combination of Jonathan David, Cyle Larin, Eustáquio, and a potentially healthy Davies gives the hosts multiple attacking options. Canada should control possession for long stretches and create enough scoring opportunities to open the tournament with a victory.

Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina Over/Under

  • Pick Under 2.5

This match will cash under 2.5 goals. Opening matches often begin cautiously, and both teams rely heavily on defense. Canada has recorded numerous clean sheets under Marsch, while Bosnia's approach focuses on limiting space and capitalizing on transition opportunities. Neither side is likely to take unnecessary risks early in the tournament. With both teams expected to prioritize defense and avoid mistakes, a lower-scoring match is the most likely outcome.
