Spain and Belgium meet in the FIFA World Cup Quarterfinals at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on Friday at 3:00 PM ET on FOX. Spain reached this stage with a 1-0 victory over Portugal, thanks to Mikel Merino's late winner, while Belgium advanced after defeating the United States 4-1, following an extra-time victory over Senegal. Spain has not conceded a goal in five tournament matches, while Belgium enters with confidence after consecutive knockout wins. The winner moves into the World Cup semifinals. Spain Looking to Keep Its Shutout Streak Alive

Spain has controlled matches through possession, averaging 1.80 goals and 1.84 expected goals per match. Mikel Oyarzabal leads the squad with four goals, while Lamine Yamal and Mikel Merino have each scored once. Marc Cucurella has contributed two assists, and Aymeric Laporte has added one from the back line.

La Roja has been the tournament's toughest team to score against, allowing 0.00 goals per match with five straight clean sheets. Spain has conceded only 0.32 expected goals against per match while controlling 65% possession, forcing opponents to spend most of the match without the ball. The victory over Portugal showed Spain can stay patient before producing at the decisive moment.

Spain has defeated Saudi Arabia, Uruguay, Austria, and Portugal since opening the tournament with a draw against Cape Verde. Goalkeeper Unai Simรณn continues to anchor a disciplined back line that has rarely been under sustained pressure.

Belgium Looking to Build on Round of 16 Win

Belgium enters averaging 2.60 goals and 2.23 expected goals per match. Romelu Lukaku leads the Red Devils with three goals, while Youri Tielemans and Leandro Trossard have each scored twice. Charles De Ketelaere produced two goals and one assist during Belgium's 4-1 Round of 16 victory over the United States.

Belgium has allowed 1.00 goals per match while conceding 1.10 expected goals against per match. Trossard, Hans Vanaken, and Nicolas Raskin have each recorded two assists, giving Belgium several creative options supporting Lukaku in attack.

The Red Devils recovered from a late deficit in the Round of 32 to eliminate Senegal before producing one of their strongest performances against the United States on Monday. Spain, however, presents a much tougher challenge than Belgium has faced during the knockout stage.

Injuries: No injuries have been reported for Belgium.

Recent Head-to-Head

Spain has won the last five meetings against Belgium. The most recent came in a 2-0 international friendly victory in 2016, while Spain also swept Belgium during the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaigns.

Spain vs. Belgium Match Pick

  • Spain -0.5 (-170)

Spain has been the more complete side throughout the tournament. Five consecutive clean sheets, excellent possession numbers, and consistent control of matches make La Roja the deserved favorite. Belgium has attacking quality with Lukaku, De Ketelaere, Tielemans, and Trossard, but Spain has yet to allow any opponent to solve its disciplined approach. Belgium should create more resistance than previous opponents, but Spain has repeatedly found ways to win tight knockout matches. Expect La Roja to control possession, limit Belgium's opportunities, and score the goal needed to reach the semifinals.

Spain vs. Belgium Over/Under Pick

  • Under 2.5 Goals (+100)

Spain has turned nearly every World Cup match into a controlled, low-scoring contest. Five straight clean sheets and only 0.32 expected goals allowed per match underline how difficult it has been for opponents to create quality chances. Belgium has scored freely at times, but it now faces the tournament's stingiest defense. Quarterfinals are often decided by small margins, and Spain has already shown against Portugal that it is comfortable waiting for the right opportunity. Belgium has enough attacking talent to remain competitive, but clear chances should be limited. Another match featuring long possessions and very few scoring opportunities makes the under, the best play.
