At long last, the MLB regular season is upon us as there is a matchup between two AL teams in this one. In this game, there is a matchup between the Cleveland Indians and the Seattle Mariners. Since this is still in the early parts of the season, both teams will look to start off their respective seasons on a high note.
Indians Look For Another Division Title
Last season, the Cleveland Indians continued their AL Central dominance as the team won the division again before losing in the first round of the playoffs to the Houston Astros. However, the majority of this year’s team is back so the Indians are expected to compete for a division title once again this season. According to Vegas oddsmakers, the Indians are expected to win 90.5 games which means that this team should end the season in the playoff picture once again. However, the team just got swept by the Kansas City Royals and will now look for win in this one.

The Cleveland Indians are led by third baseman Jose Ramirez who was unbelievable last season. Last season, Ramirez hit 39 home runs along with 105 RBIs as he was rightfully named an AL All-Star. However, Ramirez is also a fantastic contact hitter as his batting average has not been below .270 in each of the last three seasons. However, he has struggled so far this season as he only has a .140 batting average and has yet to hit a home run.
Mariners Look To Continue Hot Start
Last season was a tale of two halves for the Seattle Mariners. Prior to the All-Star Break, the team was in a prime position to make the postseason for the first time since 2001. However, after the All-Star Break, the Mariners proceeded to fall apart as the team missed the playoffs with an 89-73 record. So far this season, the team has actually looked really solid as it is currently 13-5 this season and is also in first place of its division. However, the team enters this game after getting swept by the Houston Astros over the weekend.

The Seattle Mariners are led by outfielder Mitch Haniger who has been tremendous last season. Last season, Haniger hit 26 home runs along with 93 RBIs. However, he was also a sold contact hitter as he had a .285 batting average and a .366 on-base percentage. However, Nelson Cruz led the team in RBIs last season and is no longer on the team so Haniger will most likely lead this team in RBIs by season’s end. So far this season, Haniger has a .289 batting average along with 15 RBIs.
- Mariners are 13-3 in their last 16 games vs. a right-handed starter.
- Mariners are 14-4 in their last 18 games on grass.
- Mariners are 16-5 in their last 21 overall.
- Indians are 2-6 in their last 8 road games vs. a left-handed starter.
- Indians are 2-5 in their last 7 vs. American League West.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Simply put, this game is in Seattle and I still believe that Seattle is the better of these two teams at this point in the season. Both teams just got swept over the weekend but Seattle was against one of the best teams in the AL while the Indians were against one of the worst teams in the league. I expect this game to be extremely close throughout but I think the Mariners will do just enough to squeak out of this game with a victory.
Prediction: Seattle Mariners
Full-Game Total Pick
Since both of these teams possess below average pitching staffs, I have to lean to the over in this game. Furthermore, both teams have underrated lineups that can score at least four runs each so I think that this total is too low. I can see this game being somewhere in the realm of 5-4 so I will recommend the over in this game.
Prediction: Over 7
