At long last, the MLB regular season is upon us as there is a matchup between two NL teams this Tuesday. In this game, the Arizona Diamondbacks will travel to SunTrust Park to take on the Atlanta Braves. Since this is the still one of the first games of the season, both teams will look to start off their respective seasons on a high note.
Diamondbacks Look To Improve
Last season was a major disappointment for the Arizona Diamondback. Although the team was not expected to compete for the division, people hoped to see this team compete for a playoff spot despite the absence of some key players. However, the team was average for the entire season as the team only won 82 games. However, the team is projected to only win 75.5 games this season so it is expected to finish towards the bottom of the NL West division. So far this season, the team has played relatively poorly as it has won seven of its first 16 games. Although it is really early in the season, the Diamondbacks look poised to finish with an average record once again this season.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are led by outfielder David Peralta who was unbelievable last season. Last season, Peralta hit 30 home runs along with 87 RBIs as he has rightfully become the leader of the team’s offense this season as a result. So far this season, Peralta has looked even more dialed in as he currently has a .373 batting average with two home runs and ten RBIs in the team’s first 16 games.
Braves Look To Win Another NL East Crown
Last season, the Atlanta Braves shocked some people as the team managed to win the NL East division and made its first playoff appearance since 2013. However, the majority of this year’s team is back so the Braves are expected to compete for a division title once again this season. According to Vegas oddsmakers, the Braves are expected to win 86.5 games which means that this team should end the season competing for a playoff spot once again. So far this season, the team has looked pretty solid as it has won nine of its first 15 games including a victory over the New York Mets in the team’s last game.

The Atlanta Braves are led by first baseman Freddie Freeman who was unbelievable last season. Last season, Freeman hit 23 home runs along with 98 RBIs as he was an NL MVP candidate for the bulk of the regular season. However, Freeman is also a fantastic contact hitter as his batting average has never been below .276 in each of his last six seasons. So far this season, Freeman has looked dialed in at the plate as he currently has a .345 batting average through the team’s first 15 games.
- Braves are 5-1 in their last 6 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.
- Braves are 4-1 in their last 5 games vs. a left-handed starter.
- Diamondbacks are 3-12 in their last 15 games following a win.
- Diamondbacks are 1-4 in their last 5 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Simply put, this game is in Atlanta and the Braves are the better overall team. Arizona has looked extremely inconsistent so far this season and I do not trust this team in road games against quality opposition. The Braves are 9-6 this season and the team has a significantly better lineup that should be able to generate a decent amount of runs in this game. I expect this game to be close but I think the Braves will do enough to win this game. Give me the home team in this one.
Prediction: Atlanta Braves
Full-Game Total Pick
Since both of these teams possess below average pitching staffs, I have to lean to the over in this game. Furthermore, both teams have solid lineups that can score at least five runs each so I think that this total is too low. I can see this game being somewhere in the realm of 6-4 so I will recommend the over in this game.
Prediction: Over 8.5
