The Chicago White Sox host the Kansas City Royals Tuesday in the second game of a three-game series. These two teams are in the basement of the AL Central. The Royals are 5-10, not counting Monday night’s game, while the White Sox are 5-9, 4 games behind Minnesota in the division. This match up pits the Royals Jorge Lopez (0-1) against Chicago’s Reynaldo Lopez (0-1). Game time is 8:10 p.m. ET at Guaranteed Rate Park in Chicago.

Royals sweep Indians

It’s been a very up and down year for the Royals. They started out 2-0, then lost 10 straight. But now they have won their last 3 games to improve to 5-10. What team will show up against the White Sox? On Sunday they completed an unlikely three-game sweep of Cleveland, beating the Indians 9-8. They did it in most dramatic fashion, getting a walk-off RBI single by Hunter Dozier in the bottom of the ninth. It looked like the Royals might blow it in the 7th when the Indians got three runs to tie it at 8-8. But Brad Boxberger and Wily Peralta pitched perfect innings of relief in the 8th and 9th to set the stage for Dozier. Terrance Gore, a pinch runner, scored the game-winner after stealing second and advancing to third on an overthrow. Whit Merrifield, Jorge Soler, and Lucas Duda all hit home runs for KC. Duda had 4 RBIs thanks to a three-run homer. Dozier and Alex Gordan had 2 hits each. Starter Jakob Junis gave up 5 runs in 6.1 innings. Peralta (1-1) got the win.

The Royals are averaging 4.93 runs per game, which is 13th in the majors. They are batting .251 as a team, which is 14th in the league, and are 16th in slugging percentage at .433. They have a team ERA of 5.51, which is 26th in baseball. They have a WHIP of 1.49, which is 25th in the league. Alex Gordon leads the team with an average of .360 with 3 HRs and 13 RBIs.  Merrifield is hitting .328 with 2 HRs and 7 RBIs, while Adalberto Mondesi is hitting .286. with 2 HRs and 11 RBIs. Soler leads the team with 4 HRs and 13 RBIs.

Jorge Lopez gets the start for the Royals. The righty is 0-1 on the year with a 3.71 ERA. He has a WHIP of 1.18 and opponents bat .222 against him.

White Sox take 2 of 3 from Yankees

The Chicago White Sox are 5-9 on the year after taking 2 of 3 games in a weekend series with the Yankees. They won the rubber match on Sunday by the score of 5-2. The league’s hottest hitter, Tim Anderson, did most of the damage, hitting his first career grand slam in the fourth inning to give the Sox the lead for good. “It was my first one, so it definitely felt good,” Anderson said. Anderson is leading the majors with a .429 batting average.  Yoan Moncada had 3 hits while Yolmer Sanchez had 2 hits for Chicago. Also, Jose Abreau went 1 for 3 with an RBI. Carlos Rondon gave up just 2 runs on 3 hits in 6 innings to get the win. He is 2-2 with a 3.27 ERA. Alex Colome picked up his 3rd save.

The White Sox average 4.57 runs per game, which is 17th in the league. They have a team batting average of .241, which is 16th, and they have a slugging percentage of .402, which is 20th in the league. Their team ERA is 6.20, which is 29th in the MLB. Also, their WHIP is 1.55, which is 27th. Tim Anderson leads the major leagues with a batting average of .429. Moncada is hitting .328 with 3 home runs and a team-high 13 RBIs, while James McCann is hitting .308. Leury Garcia is hitting 302 while Eloy Jimenez is hitting .288. Also, Abreu has 3 HRs and 10 RBIs.

Reynaldo Lopez gets the start for the White Sox. The right-hander is 0-2 with an ERA of 12.15 and a WHIP of 2.55. Opposing teams are hitting a robust .367 against him.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

Take the Royals. This game is a pick ’em, so pick the team that has the better pitcher. Reynaldo Lopez has been getting absolutely hammered this year with an ERA over 12., Teams hit .367 against him. The Royals will chase him early.

Prediction: Royals

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

Take the over. There will be runs — lost of them. The Sox pitching has been putrid this year but their hitting has been great, which means they need to score a lot to win. The over is 6-1-1 in Lopezs last 8 starts vs. Royals. Also, the over is 4-1 in Lopezs last 5 starts on grass and 4-1 in his last 5 starts overall.

Prediction: Over
