The Los Angeles Angels host the Seattle Mariners Friday in the second game of a four-game set between the AL West rivals. The Angels are 8-10 and have lost three straight games, while the Mariners are 13-8 and have lost 6 straight. Angels right-hander Felix Pena (0-1) gets the start while the Mariners go with left-hander Marco Gonzalez (4-0). Game time is 10:07 p.m. ET at Angels Stadium.
Mariners lose 6 straight
The Seattle Mariners were the best team in baseball about a week ago. They got off to a 13-2 start and looked like world beaters. But then they dropped 3 straight to the Houston Astros and lost 3 more to the Cleveland Indians to fall to 13-8. On Wednesday, they hooked up in a pitcher’s duel with the Indians, losing 1-0. Carlos Carrasco (2-2) was brilliant, allowing just 3 hits and 0 runs in 7 innings with 12 strikeouts to get the win. Nick Wittgren pitched 2 innings of shutout relief for the save. The lone run came from Jake Bauer, who hit a solo home run. The Mariners didn’t hit a home run for the first time in 20 games. They had hit dingers in each of their first 20 games – a record to start the season. A bright spot for Seattle was the performance of starter Erik Swanson. The right-hander, making his first career start, gave up 1 run on 2 hits in 6 innings. “It was a good step in the right direction, for sure,” said Swanson.

Angels drop 3rd straight
The Los Angeles Angels have been on a roller coaster all year. They lost 5 straight at the beginning of the year, then turned around and won 6 in a row. Now, they are riding a 3 game losing streak which drops them to 8-10 on the year. Those 3 losses were doled out by the Texas Rangers, who completed a three-game sweep on Wednesday with a 5-4 win. Angels starter Matt Harvey got blasted again, giving up 5 runs on 4 hits in 4.1 innings pitched. A 2-run triple by Shin-soo Choo chased Harvey out of the game in the 5th, Andrelton Simmons went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs while Jonathan Lucroy went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Tommy LaStella went 1 for 4 with a home run and an RBI. Mike Trout went 1 for 4.

Full-Game Side Bet
I like the Mariners in this one. The Mariners have hit a rough patch, losing series’ to both Houston and Cleveland, two of the better teams in the league. The Angels should be a welcome change, as they lost 3 straight coming into this series. Gonzalez has been pitching great at 4-0 so look for him to ntch another win. The Mariners are 6-1 in the last 7 meetings and 6-1 in Gonzalez’s last 7 starts vs. Angels. Plus, the Mariners are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Los Angeles.
Prediction: Seattle +110
Full-Game Total Pick
Take the under. Gonzalez has been excellent this year and Pena has been one of the Angels better pitchers. Given the Mariners high-powered offense, the over-under is high here, but i see this as more of a low-scoring affair. The under is 5-1 in Mariners last 6 vs. American League West and 4-0 in Gonzales’ last 4 starts with 4 days of rest. Also, the under is 5-1 in Angels last 6 home games and 4-0 in Penas last 4 home starts vs. a team with a winning record.
