Atlanta Braves vs. Cleveland Indians
MLB: Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 6:40 PM EST
After losing four in a row, the Braves have bounced back in a big way winning two straight where they totaled 19 runs. They are tied for 2nd place in the tight NL East one game back of the Philadelphia Phillies. Atlanta has not been great on the hill or at the dish on the season and the team is led by a lineup that ranks 14th in the league in runs scored. The team had totaled 13 runs in four losses before racking up 19 runs in their last two games.
The Reds had their three-game winning streak snapped in their last game and they are the only sub .500 team in the NL Central. They are in the basement of the division already five games out of first place. Cincy only ranks 26th in the league in runs scored and they have only totaled 18 runs in their last six games. The pitching has been solid for the Reds as of late and on the season with the 3rd best team ERA in the Majors.
Banging the Tribe around
In their last game, the Braves were on the road and beat the Cleveland Indians 11-5 where they banged out 16 hits. Josh Donaldson hit two HR and had four RBI and Freddie Freeman had three hits and two RBI.

Nick Markakis (.338) leads three everyday players batting over .300, Ronlad Acuna Jr. leads the team with six HR, and Dansby Swanson has five HR and is among the NL leaders in RBI. Atlanta has won four of their last five road games and they have won their last four games facing teams from the NL Central.
Kevin Gausman (1-1 2.75 ERA) gets the nod in this NL matchup and in his last outing he was pretty solid giving up two runs on three hits in seven innings, but did not get much help in a 3-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. After a great season debut not giving up any runs in an Atlanta win the Braves have lost his last two starts where he has totaled 12 2/3 innings and given up six runs.
Can’t keep the struggling team down
The Reds were on the road in their last game in a 4-3 loss to the San Diego Padres, who had lost six in a row coming into the game. Cincy gave up all four runs in the 3rd inning and each team had nine hits in the game. Three everyday players are batting below .173 and Joey Votto, who is a question mark for this game with a back injury, and Yasiel Puig have only combined for four HR and 13 RBI. While Cincinnati has won four of their last five home games they have lost five of their last six home games facing a team with a winning record.
Sonny Gray (0-3 2.79 ERA) goes in this game and in his last outing he gave up three runs on only two hits in five innings in a 3-2 loss to the L.A. Dodgers. The Reds have lost three of his four starts this season wherein those losses he gave up six earned runs, but only received two runs of support, which were both in his last start.
The Cincinnati Reds are:
- 9-20 in their last 29 overall
- 1-5 in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a winning record
- 2-10 in their last 12 games following a loss
- 16-36 in their last 52 games vs. a right-handed starter
The Atlanta Braves are:
- 4-1 in their last 5 road games
- 7-3 in their last 10 games following a win
- 4-0 in their last 4 vs. National League Central
- 4-1 in their last 5 after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Have to go with the hot bats of the Braves in this one, as they have totaled 19 runs in their last two games. They will not light up Gray in this game, but they will get a few runs off him. Like three of Gray’s four starts this season the Cincy lineup will not help him out with Gausman having another decent outing. The Braves will take the first game of this series and win their 3rd in a row.
Prediction: PICK: Braves
Full-Game Total Pick
While the total has gone Over for five of the last six games between these teams in Cincinnati the Under is the pick in this game. Gray has pitched well on the season, but has gotten little support from the lineup and look for that to continue in this game. This series opener will be a low scoring affair, so the Under is the pick.
Prediction: PICK: Under
